Most boats have a drainhole or two. On a small sailboat they are typically located on the transom (the back end of the boat).

A good plug has a nice metal hinged handle that allows the plug to be placed into the drain hole and then flipped from one side to the other to (expand the circumference and) seal it. This one has just that. Additionally, if you rotate the metal handle it will get slightly broader or narrower to fit the particular hole a little more or a little less snugly to help adjust for any slight variation in drainhole size.

On this particular plug, the metal is light in weight and does not corrode. The rubber is long lasting. All around a good utilitarian product. About as exciting as the rod and float thing in a toilet, but equally, if not more important.

Do note that the plugs come in sizes. Very important to get the right size. Even an 1/8th of an inch will mean the difference of fitting or not fitting, floating or sinking.

Buy a spare to keep on the boat, because you will drop one in the water sooner or later and they don't float.

Saw another poster had problems with a snug fit. With all of these type plugs you need to twist the cam clockwise until you get just below a tight fit. The twisting tightens the screw compressing the rubber grommet a bit to adjust. Than flip the cam to tighten. I bought three so I would have backups but Ive never lost one because I have spares. If I only had one I would likely lose it everytime I took the boat out.

These essential items for boaters are constantly getting lost or breaking from corrosion, so I picked up a few for my fishing boat's live wells. This model was my favorite since it is well constructed AND has a little extra adjustability by rotating the handle before snapping it in place. The others I bought were cheaper but didn't have that adjustment feature - I will be buying these instead as long as they hold up reasonably well.

This is an unusual size plug and I can never find it in the stores. This one fits perfectly and is pretty durable. I've only had to replace it after about 3-4 years of use.

Fast delivery. High quality product. This drain plug is a little shorter then the standard ones and this is exactly what I needed. Good company to do business with.

These boat plugs are just too short to be very secure in a boat hull. What is wrong with making them a bit longer???

If the rubber core was thicker like the larger plugs I think it would work fine. It is a tight fit on my sailboat and when I try to put it in it binds slightly in the hole. because of this it expands prematurely and will not go in. I put mineral oil on it and was able to put it in place. OK, but not great solution.

Wrong size. I received a 3/4" plug in a 5/8" package. So I went to Cabelas and bought the correct size. I hope no one orders the 3/4" inch size and receives my 5/8".
