Curve 50 HDTV Antenna
Crisp, clear picture in full 1080p
Curve 50 HDTV Antenna
The Curve 50's modern design is unlike any other HDTV antenna
Meet the Mohu Curve 50

Mohu was the first to rethink how an indoor HDTV antenna should look and, in the process, created the world’s first paper-thin HDTV antenna called the Leaf. Mohu’s done it again with the new Curve 50, taking antennas another aesthetically pleasing step forward. Mohu Curve 50 brings a fresh look to indoor antennas, while delivering the same great top performance as our famous Leaf antenna. We believe there’s no reason why an antenna in your living room shouldn’t be both highly functional and beautiful.

Simple Set-Up

Designed to be easy to plug in and set up, the Curve 50 allows you to quickly enjoy free access to available over-the-air TV broadcast channels in crisp, clear pictures in full 1080p HDTV.

Impressive Range

The Curve 50 can find all over-the-air broadcast TV channels within a 50-mile radius of your home. This multi-directional antenna comes with a 16 ft. cable and an included antenna amplifier with CleanPeak Filtering technology. With CleanPeak, the amplifier filters out cellular and FM signals, letting you pull in a clearer picture, receive more channels, reduce dropouts and increase your overall viewing experience. The amplifier’s patent pending USB powering option boasts an impressive 15 dB of gain across the entire television broadcasting band, allowing the weakest signals to be received and viewed. The amplified antenna turns on and off with your television when using the TV's USB port to power the amplifier. Coupled with the clarity of over-the-air broadcast signals, the Curve 50 delivers a more superior picture quality than is possible through the compressed cable or satellite broadcast signals.

Popular Channels & Shows

Depending on what’s broadcast in your area, you’ll soon be able to watch popular national TV networks and local TV shows at no cost. With the Mohu Curve 50 you no longer have to pay high monthly cable or satellite bills to enjoy your favorite shows. The Curve 50 can pull in your favorite local and national news, weather, sitcoms, kids’ shows, TV series and sports programming with NO monthly contract or bills.

I bought this based on specifications of it being able to get signals up to 50 miles out. When I received it, it was a lot smaller and a lot lighter than I expected. It is so light, the cable cord can move it easily. I wish they had made the stand out of something other than light plastic to help hold it in place, but oh well. As previously stated, I was initially concerned that this small thing would not pick up signals any better than a non-amplified unit. However, I was dead wrong and first impressions are not always accurate.

I hooked it up and my tv scanned for my local channels. Most of the towers in my area are located between 10 and 32 miles away, although one is located 52 miles out. It gets all the channels in their full high-definition glory with no break up, however the station that is 52 miles away breaks up so badly that it is unwatchable. Therefore, their 50 mile claim seems to be spot-on, and I live in NC where there are lots of hills, trees, and other obstructions.

Let's be honest, this is one pricey indoor antenna. I initially was going to stay under $60 and get the Amazon Basics amplified antenna, but it was out of stock. I couldn't afford to wait and I needed to get one quickly since I am kicking my high-priced cable company to the curb. The performance on this unit is great, but since it has a designer/modern look, I can't help believe there is an "Apple tax" on it just because of its sleekness, although you really can't blame a company for charging a premium on a great performing product. Even with the premium price, I still give it 5 stars on its performance.

I deducted 1 star since it is expensive. I deducted another star because this is only marginally better than $35 middle Amazon Basic "High Performance" HDTV Antenna. (The middle "High Performance" offering of the 3 Amazon sells).

What I learned over the past couple of years with trying and testing "Leaf" type antennas is everything depends on whether or not you even get decent reception where you live. If you've tried any kind of "cheapo" or non-Leaf type HDTV antenna that you got at a local store, and you barely are getting 1 or 2 channels, then I would recommend don't bother with the 3 less expensive Leaf and Leaf type offerings. Just save yourself a lot of grief go straight to the Curve 50 despite the cost.

Here's why: the Curve 50 is the only one where I got all 4 major networks and PBS without having to move the antenna around when I changed channels. You still need to make adjustment every once in awhile, but since the Curve 50 is solid material with a sturdy stand, it's a breeze to adjust as needed. The Leaf type are very flimsy and floppy. They flap and bend and you have to mount them to a window with tape or some other adhesive material. So it is a major pain adjusting the Leaf types, because it is basically re-taping over and over again.

I started with Amazon Basic's $20 "Regular Performance." I actually got all the the major channels and this one even managed to pull in the most distant that even the Curve 50 cannot. However, the problem was it literally had to be adjusted each time I changed the channel. It's too annoying if you rely on antenna for your TV to have to adjust every time, especially with tape on a window.

So then I went to the middle Amazon basic $35 "High Performance.

Curve 50 is better than other indoor HDTV antennas I have tried including Terk FDTV1A and Radio Shack 15-1880.
I have been using Terk FDTV1A for a while and I thought Terk was among best indoor antennas you can get so I was reluctant to spend $90 to buy another indoor antenna. But I was wrong!

Based on the signal strength value displayed by my Dish VIP722 DVR, signal strength of some channels have increased by 5% to 15%.
For those who have used VIP722 DVR (which has 2 satellite tuners and 1 OTA tuner), you probably know that to view a stable OTA channel you would want to have signal strength greater than 63 but preferably greater than 67 to avoid occasional stuttering or corrupted images.

Here are some comparisons of the Terk vs Mohu antenna based on my experience.
Each antenna is placed in the same location but slightly different orientation to get the best reception for the OTA channels I want to watch while maintaining the best overall signal strength.

With Terk FDTV1A placed in the best position I determined, the signal strength for local CBS displayed by DVR was around 69 but sometimes it would drop to below 64 and I would end up seeing stuttered or corrupted images.
Signal of some OTA channels tend to drop a bit during bad weather or sometimes for unknown reason so I would prefer to see signal strength greater than 70 on my DVR.

With Curve 50 placed in the best position I can find, the signal strength for CBS is now solid 80!!
Same thing with NBC and WC both have slightly increased signal strength.

Best of all, Curve 50 provides much stronger signal strength for my local Fox channel.
