This is a Work of Genius, And It's a Lot of Fun, December 25, 2007
If people remember Mojo Nixon at all, it's as a presence for a few years on MTV. He was edgy in a sanitized, cleaned-up for TV way, and pretty amusing. This captures Mr. Mojo at an earlier and fully unsanitized phase. It's great music, the lyrics are full of wonderful outsider Americana, and it will give your aunt from Iowa a heart attack. Plus he's really funny, in a wonderfully disturbing way. I could start to elaborate, but then my review would no doubt be censored (and for good reason!). Until recently, copies of this long out-of-print CD were going for over $100 -- and I almost went for it even at that price. You'd be nuts not to buy the downloads at 7.99. Two of my files had minor electronic defects -- gotta complain about that, but haven't gotten the famous round tuit.

Mojo and Skid?!? Dang, it's been awhile..., October 26, 2009
I first heard Mojo Nixon and Skid Roper back in the '80s. On a Chicago radio station, of all places -- and what I heard turned me on my ear, flipped my over and stuck with me for more than two decades. Now that's some kind of magic, folks. I'm a very finicky dame when it comes to music. My "taste" fits no category and adheres to no special genre, as long as what I hear has the qualities of originality and greatness. I will confess having long ago fallen in love with very good Psychobilly, as this musical form separates the poseurs from the cognoscenti. In point of fact, back in the days or yore when I worked as a buyer in a store owned by a large, music chain, we could pretty much close up by Midnight if we ran certain records, tapes or CDs by after 11. Typically, the New Age folks would stampede. But there'd be one or two people who approached the counter and said "This is GREAT!". And they were often invited to party after work with those of us who'd not already started falling unconscious while closing out the drawer or restocking our sections. A couple were so eclectic and brave, they ended up as co-workers. Thank you, Amazon, for this generous opportunity to share the special Zen of Mojo Nixon with some of the people around me today. This is timeless, classic and wonderful stuff for me to hear again. And it'll still be (for me) the ultimate test of humanity: the ones that don't run away are keepers! If you made it this far, you should get the album., October 9, 2011
C'mon, it is Mojo and Skid. Better music was never made using just a guitar and washboard. Includes great lyrics. I got this on album(Those big, black, plastic, discs)in the mid-eighties. As soon as I saw it on Amazon I knew I had to get the download. Who can forget "Jesus at McDonalds" (There are other versions, this is the best) or "I'm in love With Your Girlfriend. Solid rockin' for blue collar beer drinkers.
