Steven Seagal delivers in the style of a genuine bluesman and a genuine musical talent. This is no fluke or flash-in-the-pan; it is dedicated, serious R&B-laced blues mastery, more than deserving to go on the shelf with B.B. King, SRV, and Robert Cray--and a true joy to listen to. To top it off, he has surrounded himself with some great blues talent, and the result is magic. Anybody who can pull off Muddy Water's Hoochie Coochie Man with such aplomb is to be taken more than seriously.

Mojo Priest was a very pleasant surprise. I first became aware of Seagal's musical talent when I discovered his music in one of his films. I'm not a Blues expert so my opinion comes strictly from someone who actively listens to a wide range of music ranging from classic rock to funk to opera. To my ear Mojo Priest is very listenable from first track to last. Seeing all the reviews at 5 or 4-star with only 2 1-star revies, I'm glad to see that the customer reviews for MP have been fair. I'd recommend giving Mojo Priest a try. It's well worth the reasonable MP3 download price on Amazon.

TRUE BLUES MUSIC,

WOW, can Dude sing and play music! This is a must-buy CD for all true blues and SS fans! Listen to the first song on the album ' Somewhere in Between': he sings like a traditional Japanese blues singer tuning out an ancient traditional Japanese blues; bet he learnt the way he sang in this song from those traditional Japanese blues he listened to in his early days back in Japan. In my mind I can picture Dude donning samurai outfits, singing and playing with a old, dark wood guitar.
The CD is like the kind of music they play in a down-to-earth bar: you ask your drinking buddy who's this guy and your buddy shrugs and says no idea. You then go over to the bartender and asks to see the CD cover, and the very next day, you run over to the nearby records store and purchase one copy. Yeah, this CD is that GOOD!! Dude I am your HUGE fan and your 'Mojo Priest' simply knock my socks off!! Please play more music please...how 'about some reggae numbers, man?!

I only regret that there are no more CDs like this from Mr. Seagal! I'd buy every one and even give them as gifts to friends. He is so multi-talented and I know it takes a lot to produce CDs, sometimes having to travel to foreign countries to get the right 'mix', but his New Orleans style of blues is exactly what I'd want more to hear. I have it in my car and in my home and even in my barn!! His love of the music shows and I bet his mother had a lot to do with encouraging him to do what he loved -produce his own music. She believed in him too. I fully recommend this --listen to some of his later movies, you will hear Steven Seagal singing in some of the background music clips.

While Steven Seagal's first album, "Songs From the Crystal Cave," was more of an international pop music affair, his latest disc "Mojo Priest" finds him delving into his true passion, blues. I always knew he liked guitars and the blues, but a recent magazine article detailing his extensive collection of vintage instruments really opened my eyes about his knowledge of and dedication to music. Steve shreds a mean axe on this album, with guests like Pinetop Perkins, Hubert Sumlin, and Bo Diddley.
I was hoping for something rooted more in traditional blues but the reality is that this is more akin to a night out at an electric show somewhere like the House of Blues. There's organ, piano, and plenty of party packed into this record. It's entertaining enough -- I was never bored -- but I must say the backup singers felt like they were distracting from his music instead of adding to it. Perhaps less is more in future endeavors? Ultimately though, it's a pretty good album if you're into electric blues and it's grown on me after multiple listens. I've seen about 95% of Mr. Seagal's film canon and after hearing him sing and play on this album, I humbly suggest that he think about putting his acting to bed for awhile. His heart doesn't seem to be in it anymore and his vocals on "Mojo Priest" are miles clearer than his recent marble-mouthed movie dialogue. Notes: -"My Time Is Numbered" is a good acoustic slide number. -Tina M's vocals on "BBQ" are a bit overwrought but the second half of the track features Seagal really laying into the guitar something fierce! -"Hoochie Koochie Man" is a classic harmonica blues number with the great James Cotton -Great to hear Bo Diddley's vocals on "Shake". Surprisingly enough, Seagal more than holds his own in this entertaining duet. Or perhaps it isn't so surprising, since I understand Steven studied at the feet of some of Chicago's great bluesmen when he was younger. -Two songs have "ass" in the title. Coincidence or something more? You be the judge!

I purchased this CD after attending Seagal's blues concert in Portland, Oregon, USA. Like many of his other fans, I originally went because I was a big fan of his movies. I own the "Crystal Cave" CD, so I knew that Mr. Seagal had some talent, but I went in with some reserved expectations.
Needless to say, his live performance was GREAT!! Mr. Seagal has surrounded himself with a great band full of names familliar to the Blues enthusiast (such as Bernard Allison, son of legend Luther Allision). His stage performance was lively and full of energy and I was very impressed with his voice and "chops" on the guitar. His stage show consisted of a combination of material from this CD as well as a couple of Blues standards, all very well done. I can actuall say that of the many blues concerts that I have seen, this was one of the better. I was pleasantly suprised!

Mojo Priest,

After an accomplished acting career with such hits as "Under Siege' and `Above the Law', Steven Seagal decided to branch out from the film world and do what most actors-turned wannabe musicians try to do, but fail miserably--- create a successful music album. In 2005 Steven released a blue's album titled `Songs from the Crystal Cave' and the music world was blessed by Seagal's natural singing and guitar-playing talents.
In 2006, he did the next-to-impossible and released a follow-up album that tops the first. With hits such as "Alligator A**" and "She Dat Pretty", `Mojo Priest' continues the success of Seagal's first album, but gives his listerners, like myself, a reason to buy and enjoy his second album by adding more depth to his music writing and performing abilities. I hope Steven makes 3rd album!

Don't hate him 'cause he's beautiful. Seagal is serious about his music and he has the talent and the resources to put together a powerful package. If you like the blues and you want a fresh perspective on a timeless theme, you will like this album. And if you want a real treat, see him live. You will be amazed by his picking style. Don't be jaded by previous lackluster actor wannabe music stars. If you don't believe me, just look at the credits on this album. The legends that work with him would not risk their reputations for something they did not believe in.
