It just sits there. You hit the start button, and the boring black and grey LCD timer ticks away 2 minutes while the small LEDs blink silently. Every 30 seconds it makes a little beep, then (per the instruction card) "... When the 2-minute timer is done... Molar begins his grand finale lightshow and starts beeping like crazy. He's actually giving you applause for a job well done!"... pretty colorful description. Actually, the LEDs just blink a little faster, and it makes a few beeps - just like my coffee maker does when the coffee is ready. Your kid will need quite an imagination to feel that this lifeless, green statue is actually giving him applause. In this age of Xbox and Wii, I can't see this thing holding any kid's attention for a whole 2 minutes. Also - it's pretty big; takes up a lot of space on the sink.
The tooth brushing "guide" is actually a 3 x 5 index card printed with the same basic brushing instructions given by most dentists. Fit and finish on mine weren't that great. The batteries were difficult to keep in place and the door was hard to close... at least I was able to return it for a full refund.

The timer feature works well to help train kids to brush their teeth for the proper amount of time. I tell the kids "use the monster!" and they do.Drawbacks: The toothbrush holders are not even close to being big enough for electric spin tooth brushes. The strangest problem we had was with the surface of the cabinet we had next to the sink. The white laminate (probably plastic) surface discolored from the rubber feet of the timer. So now, we have these big green-grey blotches on the top it.

This timer is very helpful in making sure my kids brush their teeth long enough. I also use it for toilet training my younger child. I wish they had better use instructions, they are not very clear at all.

It's cute. My 6 year old loves it. My 4 year old doesn't pay attention to it and my 3 year old wants nothing to do with it. So I guess it really depends on the child or more the age of the child. Other then that, I like it.Its cute and fun but I hoped for music playing while the timer was on, rather then just a beep every 30 second to change sides and several beeps when time is up. Love the fact though that it can hold two regular brushes on each side or one big electric one on each side.

I am a mother of 2 children who hated to brush until I bought Molar Mate, now they love to brush. The last time my son went to the dentist he had many cavities but after he used Molar Mate for awhile and we went back he didnt have any. I truly believe that this little guy helped because now they are brushing more. Its worth every penny!!
