I received this Mexican Mortar and Pestle several months ago and am STILL grinding to smooth it out. Everyone that comes over takes a turn at grinding with rice for a few minutes. Little black specs continue to show up, so I have not used it yet. I'm sorry I purchased this item.

bought this for my wife and i had to season it. just grinding whith the pestal is for the birds. if you use a drill and wire brush, it helps smooth it out a lot. if you use a peanut grinder thats evan faster. i spent a hour or so with power tools and then used the rice to finish it out. i hope this helps someone other than me. fast delivery and a nice looking rock. thank you.

I loved this, I got it as a gift for my mother-in-law and she thought it was amazing. This is one of the nicer mortar and pestal sets I have seen. If you are someone who likes to grind your own herbs this is the product for you!

I received this as a gift and have come to love it after grinding it down with rice. The grinding part seemed labor intensive, but it was also therapeutic. I'd sit in front of the tv and grind away. In short order everything was smooth so I must have been enthused to say the least. As it turns out, this makes great guacamole and looks fantasic on the table when entertaining. Whip out the chips and margaritas, and it's party time.
Kidding aside, if you have anything that needs to be ground down, this does a nice job. I use it on herbs in the garden at the end of the season and lavender as well.

The packaging could have been better. The product came with a broken edge. I did not take the time to return it or contact the company to complain.

It is a heavy weight, well constructed mortar. It came with instructions for seasoning it and I followed them and it works great. I rather found the process of grinding rice therapuetic and enjoyable. I used brown rice (it was all I had.)

I personally use this for grinding raw materials for incense, frankincense, myrrh, etc. It quickly and easily brings the raw materials which are quite hard and resinous into a useable powder to burn on the charcoals.

For the purpose I ordered it, it is excellent and the price was fantastic.

When not in use, it is displayed holding large bright lemons and green limes.. quite impressive actually. :-)

I'm very satisfied with the purchase with the noted exception.

Advanced Touch - A Healing Solution

I received this mortar and pestle set for Christams last year. Seasoning the thing was not a fun job, but well worth it. It works great for whole spices and herbs because of the roughness, but I wouldn't use it for anything real wet, too porous. But then again, I don't mind using lemons in this thing, doesn't give off a toxic chemical when exposed to acids (marble, granite, brass, copper, and bronze do).

I bought this as a gift for my friend because she makes great guacamole and I thought this would be great for presentation. The molcajete arrived and it seems to be made well. It is heavy and sturdy and actually bigger than I thought it would be. It is a steal for the price. William Sonoma has one for 49.99 and Kohls sells one for 69.99. You do have to season it before use and there are instructions on how to do that in the package. I cant wait to order one for myself.

I just got this a few minutes ago and the first impression is: it's not the same one that's in the picture. That drops it 3 stars right there.

Why three stars? First, it's not black, or even black-ish. It's more on the very light grey, almost white, side of the spectrum. Not the end of the world, but I was expecting something black. Second, it's a different design. The feet come out at a different angle. Bottom line: it's not the one I thought I was buying. That's BS, so 2 start drop.

The quality of the thing appears, so far, about what I was expecting. So I am downgrading the product based on looks alone. But that's not unreasonable because it's supposed to be a decorative piece when not in use. Well, how can I plan for that when the darn (yea) thing isn't what I was expecting when I paid my money? They got the amount of money they were expecting. Third star.

I'm keeping it because, like I said, it appears to be good quality, and I'm not going through the hassle of returning it and looking for a new one. But when you show a stupid picture of a product, and someone buys that product, it should look like the stupid picture.

this item is exactly what i was hoping it would be, an excellent addition to my kitchen! my item came exstremely fast almost less than two days on standard delievery. My Molcajete was describe to me and shown very well helping me make my purchase off of Amazon.

This was much bigger in size then I thought it would be. It also is heavier and is beautiful. I am very pleased with this product.
