From School Library Journal
PreS-Gr 1–From “One mole digging a hole” to “Ten bees pruning trees,” backyard creatures busily tend to a garden. Brightly colored numerals appear in the middle of the brief rhyming sentences, along with the corresponding number of animals to count. On the facing pages, Sharratt's vivid color cartoons are bustling with activity. Snakes rake the soil, parrots pick a wheelbarrow full of carrots, and crows water the lettuce patch. The variety of textures, shapes, and patterns in the illustrations adds to the liveliness. The final pages show all the gardeners relaxing in the sun, offering another opportunity for counting fun.–Linda Ludke, London Public Library, Ontario, Canadaα(c) Copyright 2010.
