Caution: The main picture advertising this product shows a green plastic box with a very large assortment of pieces. The product shipped is a small cardboard box with few pieces. If you go back to the other pictures, which you have to click on to enlarge, you can see the cardboard box. I find it disingenuous that the first, enlarged picture is the prominent one. Do you think this is an accident? I don't. I hate deception in advertising Molecular Visions Organic Modeling Kit.

I'm actually quite disappointed in this kit. Even though it was only $12, I think I would have been happier spending the $40 for the Prentice Hall kit. The ease of putting the molecules together is ok but not as easy as the Prentice kit, in which you could better visualize where the bonds go and the according shape (whether it's tetrahedral or planar or linear). This kit requires more work from the student than is necessary. When you're studying you just want to be able to put the molecule together in a quick manner so you can get to the point of what you're doing, whether trying to visualize flips and rotations, but it's harder to do that with this one kit.

If you're on a budget, this kit isn't bad but I dread having to make a molecule because it's a fairly cheap kit and I say with some conservation.

This kit goes perfectly with any organic chemitry class, in that it helps enormously to visualize practically any molecule, thereby alleviating the most common pain of organic chamistry students. Also great for children curious about chemistry.

My friends and I purchased what we thought was the nice, large model set from amazon. Well, they sent us the small one, so we essentially wasted $20 and could have just bought it from campus instead. So thanks amazon, for wasting my time and my money. Do not buy this product!!!!

If you search Amazon under "Molecular Visions Kit" you'll find (any given time) up to three or four of the wonderful Darling Model kits. These kits have been trashed as coming in the "wrong" container in some reviews (pictures have now been fixed, which confused the "triple" kit (organometallic / organic / inorganic) which DOES come in the green plastic box with single bag kits previously.

But who cares? The point of Darling isn't just the outstanding snaps, bonds and exclusive atom shells, but the awesome and unique BOOKLETS that come with these sets, that step you through not just assembly but the chemistry, the pi's, the bonds, and MUCH more!! Unlike ANY other set (including Prentice), Darling's books MAKE these series. Stephen simply has spared no effort to EDUCATE us on what we're assembling, in painstaking detail.

Which brings me to a BIG WARNING: You CAN get these kits for 10% of the price as "used"-- I got this one for $2 with an Amazon third party, and have also bought many others here for my classes (molecular biology tutorial creator). BUT:

1. DO NOT buy from a seller that states "parts may be missing." If the "part" is the booklet, you've missed out on 90% of the value of the set. In fact, I put these booklets' value at about $20 by themselves!!

2. If a seller says "like new unopened" you're usually ok. If they say "like new, just opened to check" -- EMAIL them on Amazon's system and ASK SPECIFICALLY if the booklet is there!

So, here are the kits available here at this writing, each with their own booklet:

Be careful buying this product! What is pictured is NOT what you get. I received a cardboard box and a ziploc bag full of loose pieces, but it definitely does not look like I have as many pieces as in the picture (especially the carbon bonds). If I'm lucky, I'd say have maybe 1/3 as many pieces. It's also quite disappointing to find that I get a piece of cardboard in lieu of that green plastic case. If you want to buy this kit, find it somewhere else because it seems like it would be a great kit if all the pieces were actually there. As it is, I'm lucky if I can form just one isomer of octane.

I needed help visualizing 3D changes in molecules for a 3rd year university level o-chem class. Molecular modeling kits are expensive, I chose this one because it's cheap. Pieces are hard to fit together, the male and female ends of components don't make any sense in relation to the female-only molecule pieces.

I think I may have gotten a kit that was intended for different use than I was looking for, but there was nothing in the item description to tip me off.
