5.0 out of 5 stars Nice Size for a Moleskine notebook
I really like the size of this notebook. I wanted something to carry in my laptop bag for capturing technical ideas. The grid makes it easy to write text or draw diagrams. It is about the right size for the task. The pocket size that everyone knows and loves really is not large enough to capture more than diary type items. This notebook has enough physical real estate to...

3.0 out of 5 stars Grid lines too dark; otherwise a fine moleskine
This is another fine moleskine product. If you like the basic features of other moleskines this one will serve you well.

However, one drawback that will prevent me from buying this product again is that the grid lines are too dark. I tend to write in (mechanical) pencil so the grid lines on this product are too over barring (for my taste). The ruled journal...

I really like the size of this notebook. I wanted something to carry in my laptop bag for capturing technical ideas. The grid makes it easy to write text or draw diagrams. It is about the right size for the task. The pocket size that everyone knows and loves really is not large enough to capture more than diary type items. This notebook has enough physical real estate to get most jobs done without beeing to large to carry easily.

I'm very happy with how it fits its task.

5.0 out of 5 stars One Of A Kind, October 15, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This notebook is awesome. You wouldn't think the design of a notebook could make that much of a difference, but let me tell you different. From the look, feel and size this notebook is superb. I highly recommend it. It has a strap to keep it closed, as well as one as a place holder plus a pouch in the back to hold loose paper. Who could ask for more? One thing that wasn't obvious from the information listed, the large notebook is not as big as I thought it would be. Turns out I love it, but I expected one more like a regular spiral size and this is about half that. All in all I love this notebook and have ordered more!

3.0 out of 5 stars Grid lines too dark; otherwise a fine moleskine, September 7, 2011

This is another fine moleskine product. If you like the basic features of other moleskines this one will serve you well.

However, one drawback that will prevent me from buying this product again is that the grid lines are too dark. I tend to write in (mechanical) pencil so the grid lines on this product are too over barring (for my taste). The ruled journal has lighter lines but for some reason the Squared Notebook's grid lines are dark such that they make it notably more difficult to read your own writing (or sketches).

Not sure why the grid lines need to be so dark but I would really enjoy this product if the grid lines were much lighter.

1.0 out of 5 stars Big Disappointment! There are better journals on the market., September 30, 2010
I know that Moleskine may be at the top of the market of premium-grade journals, but there's just too much hype. I've used similar journals from Rhodia, Exacompta, Quo Vadis, Black and Red, etc.

Bottom line...these are made in China. The paper is from China. And we all know that can mean mixed quality. If you use liquid ink pens or fountain pens, forget about using any Moleskine product. The paper is subject to horrible bleedthrough and feathering.

These would be fine, if you use pencil or a cheap ballpoint.

Sure, they look cool, the cover is nice, the back pocket and elastic closure are nice features, but the paper is really of sub-par quality for a journal at this price point.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very nice!, July 27, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Yes, it's an expensive notebook with hipster connotations. That said, I still kinda wanted one after reading about these somewhere on the internets but couldn't pull the trigger since the unlined version is not nearly OCD enough for me (way too free form) and the lined version reminds me of the lined paper I had to use in public school, and who wants to remember that waste of 13 years of life you'll never get back?

I found the grid version accidentally on Amazon and be still my beating heart! GRID SQUARES?! In a durable notebook that looks more like pointy nose literature you could use to chat up dirty blonde clod-shod nurses wearing hot librarian glasses at the hospital cafeteria (well, assuming you had a black Lab puppy with you or something I guess, I have no game and will die alone) or the secret operating manual for a nuclear missile silo? And it doesn't make you look like you're going back for your GED at 30 if people see you carrying it to the truck or see it sitting on your desk at work? I was hooked. These things are better than crack, they should just give the first one away free and you'll be lining up for more at any price. I discovered it's a very high quality tool that's worth paying a premium for and wished I'd had these a long time ago.

Let me break it down for you: I'm an engineer and while going through the four year long, sleep deprived, 80-hour week, repetitive kick in the b@%$# that is engineering school they make you (yes, MAKE you!) do all your homework on this special grid paper called, crazily enough, engineering paper that costs a fortune and ensures that you'll never be dating while hauling a huge tablet of nerd paper and huge calculator though the library at 10:00 PM still attempting poorly to finish all your horrific calculus/thermo/fluid mechanics/sediment transport homework after staying up playing WOW all night.

If you were smart enough not to go to engineering school and never had to use the stuff, Amazon probably sells it if you're bored enough to want to see what it looks like (edit: I looked, they do, neat!). Engineering school and engineering paper trains you to write and draw in these little squares and makes everything look all nice and stuff when you review it later. Or not. Either way it's an essential piece of engineer equipment.

To this day at work I write everything on grid paper at work and at home as a result. In engineering and surveying we have these things called field books (Amazon sells these too, can life get any better?) but they're not something I'd want to use every day, don't feel real good and work too well since they're kinda small and not suited for people who write big as I do and write a lot with a jubilee of pens. I've always wanted a smaller version of engineering paper (not 8.5 x 11, in other words) for drawing and writing somewhat neatly and organized as we engineers were forced to do in college. Something bound, something tough enough to survive life on the road and in the field making the mediocre bucks, something cooler looking than a giganto fresh tablet of green engineering paper that reminds me of wasting my youth and hair in engineering school when I should've been doing something different (engineering school will still be there when you're 30, kids...).

This is it, sports fans. If you're an engineer this bad boy will be close to your heart. If you're not, it will make you OCD and cause you to print in all caps in small squares and draw lots of pictures. Or not. Either way this is a great piece of kit if you need to draw nice engineering style pics and like lots of lines to show you the way while writing important stuff.

Moleskines are an excellent way to keep track of your daily thoughts, memos, notes, projects etc. I love the grids for drawing and sketching. I have owned nearly every type of Moleskines and this size is definitely my fav.

Worth the (somewhat high) price!!

And, I repeat, still the best. I've used the Moleskine notebooks for many years, and given them as gifts (all well received). Paper is nice, book opens and stays flat, and it all wears well. Simple note books, but I highly recommend them.

Quite happy with my purchase. I use this notebook to keep my handwritten recipes in. It is very sturdy with a built in bookmark ribbon, and can lie flat with little manipulation. The small pocket in the back is handy for keeping recipe sheets that I haven't had a chance to transcribe yet. I recommend this quite highly!

Expensive, but, a great notebook for work, especially the compact size. Can write a great deal and the notebook (up to 3) fit in my briefcase very well.

i love this little notebook. perfect for work. great size. not too big, not too small. easy to carry to the lab, or a meeting. i kinda like the hard cover version better. i got the soft cover by accident. i only looked at the size and color in the image and didn't read the 'soft' part. it lets you take notes on it. graph paper inside lets you draw images/schematics/tables really easy. love the sneaky pocket in the back for biz cards. i keep a few post-it's and 'sign-here' tags in the cover.
