It will grow on you, October 21, 2010
This review is from: Moleskine Squared Notebook Soft Cover Pocket (Flexibound)
I was used to the hardcover Moleskine notebooks (large and small) and my initial reaction when I received the soft cover notebook was mild disappointment. At first, it seems flimsy in comparison, and it doesn't look as elegant as its hardcover sibling. So I decided to use it just to jot down random notes that I can then transfer back to my better organized hardcover large notebooks. It quickly grew on me and I now love it. It's more inviting and more comfortable to use than the prettier hardcovers. It just "feels right" in the hand. I liked it so much that I bought the 400-page
Moleskine 2011 12 Month Daily Planner: Black Soft Cover Pocket to use not as planner, but as a thick notebook. It feels just as awesome, but with twice the capacity, and the dates don't really interfere much. Note to the Moleskine folks: there's probably a good market for thicker notebooks.
I noticed that people often ask what pens or pencils work well with the somewhat thin and permeable Moleskine paper and I've found that regular (non-gel) Pilot 1.0 ballpoint pens of various colors give fine results. For my more ad hoc notes, I use 0.5 mechanical pencils, including Pilot Color Eno which are great for emphasizing things without bleeding through.
As a side note, if anyone is looking for a similar style of notebook, but just a bit snazzier, take a look at the
Exaclair Quo Vadis Habana Lined Journal 4 X 6 (Black). The cover is simulated leather and the pages are of higher quality, but it's 1/2 inch more in both directions which may be good or bad, depending on your need.

I use this notebook daily to study my professional pubs and take notes on techniques and procedures to improve my skills. Definitely the most useful and durable notebooks i've used since college.

Nice little pocket notebook, October 23, 2009
This review is from: Moleskine Squared Notebook Soft Cover Pocket (Flexibound)
Nice little notebook that works well for jotting down info, making little drawings,
keeping notes on restaurants and hotels. Faster for writing down phone numbers or web sites heard on the radio that taking out the iPhone. Plus it doesn't break or run out of battery. Has a nifty little pocket in the back to store a few mementos, which is a plus.
Better value than the Clairefontaine products I was using until now.
