5.0 out of 5 stars I Love This Band!, July 24, 2000
By
This review is from: Molinos (Audio CD)
I saw this band for the first time this weekend at the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival, sandwiched between two acts I wanted to see. I figured, "Okay, I'll sit through their set since I already have a good view," and I am SO GLAD I did!

The Paperboys are amazing in concert, I suggest that you not only buy this album, but look up their schedule and get your bad old self to their next venue!

Very upbeat, well-styled Celtic/popular/Ska-esque music - Tom Landa has a classic voice that is easy to listen to, reminding me of such vocal greats as Buddy Holly. Shannon Saunders is a simply amazing fiddle player, her dexterity and interpretation of the music will grab you and make you want to leap up and dance. Hanz Araki, not only is he really cute, but his mastery of all things flute/pipe/pennywhistle will amaze you. I was finding myself constantly watching his fingers while he played, it seemed impossible that he was able to get those sounds out of his instruments.

Run, don't walk, to the nearest Paperboys concert. Do not hesitate to click "Add to my shopping cart" right now. NOW! What are you waiting for? :)

The Winnipeg Folk Festival has a knack of finding the best bands out there. The Paperboys definitely are one of the best. Everytime I hear Same for Everyone I get goosebumps.

5.0 out of 5 stars These Paperboys really deliver!!, April 20, 1999

I strongly encourage people of all musical persuasions to try the Paperboys. I have shared the tunes with many ecclectic friends whose interests range from alternative to country to celtic to rock, and they all have found the sound attractive and upbeat. The individual performances excel and blend into something much bigger than the sum of Paperboy parts, lyrics are either fun or profound (or both...), and the mixing is clean and crisp. I first was exposed to Paperboys at Celtic Mayhem in Albany, NY and I could not stop dancing from the moment they started to play. Every fiber tells me that you will love the sound of Paperboys!

5.0 out of 5 stars Totally pleased, June 19, 1998
By A Customer

"A celtic band stuck in the Carribean" is how this band was described to me right before I saw them live in Seattle; I'd never even heard of them. But I danced all the way through their show, and the cd is now one of my favorites. Highlights are definitely Molinos, as well as the traditional Drunken Wagoneer, which makes you want to dance, and the wonderful While You Were Sleeping/The Breathing Method/The Jaunt, which was written by the flutist Hanz Araki, who is absolutely brilliant. My 16 year old brother, who WAS only into rap, loves this album more than me. 100% excellent.

I first heard this band almost five years ago and fell in love with them immediately. After having had the opportunity to hang out with the whole band after several of their shows, I love them even more. They're clever, friendly, and immensely talented. This is one of my all time favorite albums.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Music From Great People, October 10, 2002

This review is from: Molinos (Audio CD)
In the past decade i have had a chance to see and know this band. I 1st heard them in Portland, OR where they played a small venue and I immediately bought their CD (Late as Usual). Then as the years passed, my friends and I saw them more and one of my friends hired them to be at their wedding. I shared a table with the band and can say that each of them is a unique piece to their puzzle. Just plain makes me feel good to know that there are these creative people alive. Uplifting, dance-able, introspective, and very authentic in their jigs & reels. They have 3 CD's out now and you can't go wrong with any of them.

I LOVE the Paperboys! Molinos, meaning windmills in Spanish, is by far their best work. Having seen them 3 times, four pretty soon, the music is just as wonderful. At their concerts, they play their music a lot faster. Visit the Paperboys website at: Paperboys.com

I LOVE CANADA!

5.0 out of 5 stars Something Different, October 19, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Molinos (Audio CD)
The Paperboys are great! They've created a new space for themselves in music. I saw them in concert (in my tiny hometown--it was so awesome that they came there) and got to watch Shannon play the violin, the accordion, and the bass at various times throughout the show. Somehow they make your standard, three guys and three chords garage band seem really overrated.

5.0 out of 5 stars celtic,bluegrass,latin,POP!, February 11, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Molinos (Audio CD)
From the opening hip hop drum beat of the tittle track "Molinos" to the crazed "Rays Ukrainian Polkas" this album is a must for Celtic and Roots music fans. If you need a comparison The Oysterband,Wolfstone,Spirit of the West, Brave Combo and Left Over Salmon come to mind. The sonwritting is very strong as is the musicianship. What makes this album unique is the Pop influences and the live feel of the album.(something alot of roots bands lack)These guys should be getting played on radio ten times a day instead of the crap that unfortunately does.

5.0 out of 5 stars This CD is awesome. This group deserves some attention., November 14, 1998

I love this CD. I've made it to about three Paperboys shows here in the pacific northwest, and I loved every one of them. The mix of celtic/rock is awesome and makes you wanna get up and dance. This CD offers a wide variety of music with a variety of instruments which add spice to every song. This is one of the best CDs that I own. I love this group, and they deserve some major attention.
