Molly Donnelly is probably the best book I've ever read. It states the truth, and shows you what life is really like growing up. Not everything is picture perfect.

"Molly Donnelly" is an ordinary girl who's life changed suddenly because of the attack of the Japanese in Pearl Harbor. Her world of innocence had become a reality of parent to children continous battles and bigger battles such as the lives of friends and family members at war. This book has bought a new perspective of World War II in the eyes of a teenage girl. Jean Thesman had given readers of all ages a view of the past which changed America forever in the year 1941 on December 7. It showed how life as teenagers were during the war. Jean Thesman had done a terrific novel!

Molly Donnelly is about a girl who is growing up during World War II. Her mother is forced to work in a ship yard and Molly has to take care of her brother, Dusty, and do all the house work. She falls in love with a boy in her class and looses her best friend, Emily. This novel really explains the hardships that people went through during the war. It is very well written!

Molly Donnelly is a great book about a girl growing up during WWII. She takes on a lot of resposibilty in her teenage years with her mom going off to work and having to watch her brother, Dusty, who is quite the little brat.As she grows up she learns new things. She makes new friend and loses a couple. I think this book is a great book and i recomend it to anybody who loves to read about serious books.

It was a great book and I enjoyed it very much, but some of the characters didn't seem very much alive to me, except for Molly. Jean Thesman wrote a wonderful book, I hope she can continue the story of Molly Donnelly, but thats just wishful thinking...=)

A Fantastic Read,

This was a wonderful book, and it really opened up a new idea of America to me. I had had no prior idea of what life was like in the U.S during World War Two, and loved reading about it, and taking in a great story at the same time. When I first recieved this book I was hesitant about starting it (as it didn't look very appealing), but am I ever glad I sat down and read it! I recommend this book to anyone age ten and over, and I am proof that elder teens can relate to this also.

I couldn't put it down!,

The Olympics were on telly, and I wanted to watch them. But I just couldn't put this book down and look at the TV. I think my country won some medals. I hope they'll replay it all again later. But even if they don't, I won't regret that I read this book instead of watching the TV. This book was amazing. By the end of it, I was on an emotional roller coaster. It really made me feel. I couldn't help but care about the heroine, and about her friends, too. They seemed so real to me that I became lost in their world, and stopped thinking that this was a work of fiction. A beautiful book, and a well-written one - the writer avoids the cliches and doesn't take the easy or predictable roads. Every character is well-developed, every plot twist is deftly thought out. This is why I like Jean Thesman's books so much. She's a writer's writer.
As a bonus, too, the girl in the cover picture actually looks the way her character was written to look, like a dark-haired girl of Irish descent - in fact, she looks like some of my Irish friends did at her age. That makes a nice change from some of the other books I've read, where the people on the covers bear almost no resemblance to the characters in the book. |
