3.0 out of 5 stars good for kids
i am 13 and i just read this book, while i admit the end of the book was really good, the other parts r really dry and unexciting for a middle schooler, or at least an 8th grader. but i would think 10 and 11 yr olds would love this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars As the world stops..., May 26, 2005
By
L. Nein "Neiner" (Eastern MidWest, USA) - See all my reviews
Well, the magical orphan theme seems to have become the flavor of the year this year; but, I must say, it has produced some great writing lately. This Molly Moon adventure is even better than the first, with all kinds of layers and twists and turns in the plot. Like the first adventure, there are some real stretches that weaken the book a little, but overall it is engaging for young readers, both boys and girls. And just wait until you see what Petula can do! Hilarious!

This would be a fun book for a family or class read-aloud, and has a lot of creative concepts regarding time and mind control that would be interesting for kids to digest.

Recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jenny-Molly Moon Stops the World, January 24, 2005
A Kid's Review
Georgia Byngs has done it again! She has written another fantastic fantasy about the great hypnotist, Molly Moon. This time, Byngs has written a story where Molly Moon, an orphan, learns that she has the power to stop time-and not just that, but she can also stop time in the whole world! Read on to find out what Molly does!

In Molly Moon Stops the World, Molly meets an evil madman known as Primo Cell, or Cell. Cell has powers of his own; he can also hypnotize people and stop the world! Has Molly finally met her match? That's not all; Cell has hypnotized all of the Broadway stars to work for him! Later on, Molly finds out something very strange about Primo Cell-it seems he's being controlled...but how? Who is controlling him? You'll have to read Molly Moon Stops the World to find out!

I think Molly Moon Stops the World is a perfect book for kids of all ages that love to read fantasy stories because it's this book is filled with fantastic fantasy! I'm one of those people who just love fantasy and reading, so I really enjoyed this great book by Byngs! Georgia Byngs is as good as J. K Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter books!

4.0 out of 5 stars "Stop," Drop and Read, April 25, 2004
Georgia Byng follows up the bestselling "Molly Moon's Incredible Book of Hypnotism" with "Molly Moon Stops the World," another fast-paced novel for children.

After learning how to hypnotize people all over the world, rescuing her pet pug Petunia from being dog-napped, you'd think Molly would have had enough adventures to last a lifetime. However, the evildoers of the world simply aren't done doing evil. Molly soon finds herself on a plane to Los Angeles, where she and her best friend Rocky discover that Primo Cell, a powerful, rich public figure, has been controlling celebrities - and has learned how to stop time! Of course, that is not enough for Cell. Now he wants to be President of the United States!

This novel has enough tongue-in-cheek references to the media, advertising, award shows, celebrities and politicians to keep adults interested and smirking. There is plenty of time-stopping action and spy-like work by the young protagonists to get kids oohing and aahing. If you enjoyed the first Molly Moon book, or if you like the film Clockstoppers, I am certain that you will enjoy "Molly Moon Stops the World."

5.0 out of 5 stars Molly Moon is Back!, October 27, 2005
A Kid's Review
In this intriguing sequel to to Molly Moon's Incredible Book of Hyponotism, Molly, Rocky, and Petula, the pug set out on a journey to Los Angeles, California. They go to the Academy Awards to find out about a suspicious man, Primo Cell, who they suspect is hypnotizing Hollywood celebrities to be spokepersons for his companies. With all his money and power, he might even try to take over the world. He has to be stopped! Now, he's got another star under his power and it's up to Molly to save her. But, she has a special power of her own that she doesn't even know about yet... I think that this book is fun and imaginative. It is a great story about friendship, love, mystery and bravery. If you like all of those things, and more, then this book is for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stop the world (she wants to get off), September 9, 2005
There's a great deal of pleasure involved in watching an author endow their protagonists with increasingly super-human powers. The fun comes when you get to see who the villain is. If the first book in the "Molly Moon" series was about Molly coming to terms with who she is, the second is Molly's newfound understanding of her past and her acceptance of it. None of this is to say that the book isn't as much fun as the first. Heck, Byng's pulling out all the stops with this one. There are more freaky twists, surprising villains, and misleading touches in this book than you can shake a fist at. The sequel in this case can certainly be said to be better than its predecessor.

Molly's bitten off more than she can chew. When she was contacted by the town's mysterious librarian Lucy Logan for a meeting, she never could have anticipated where such a thing would lead. At the meeting, Molly learns of the existence of a supremely evil and supremely gifted hypnotist by the name of Primo Cell. Owner of countless businesses and friend to hundreds of important Hollywood stars, Molly is sent to take Primo down. Amongst his other crimes, he may be directly involved in the kidnapping of young child star (and former Molly Moon rival) Davinia Nuttel. Problem is, Primo appears to be Molly's superior in every way. He's a better hypnotist, he knows how to keep people from being un-hypnotized, AND he knows a trick that Molly's only just learned.... How to stop time itself. It's going to take a lot of courage and a great deal of ingenuity for Molly, her best friend Rocky, and their dog Petula to keep from becoming Cell's next victims.

Hypnotism takes a turn for the dark in this second part in Byng's ever-popular series. Now the villains aren't all bumbling and cute like Mr. Nockman in "Molly Moon's Incredible Book of Hypnotism". They're cold and unafraid to kill off kids to get their way. Some truly horrible things are done to hypnotized people here, but nothing so bad that it makes for an inappropriate read. Byng seems remarkably good at making people threatening without scaring the kid readers. No mean trick. The book has a slight problem with tempo, however. Midway through the story the action begins to grind to a not-so-exciting halt, ending only when Molly and Rocky FINALLY get captured.

If Molly's first book is ruled by the image of cuckoos, this book is ruled by constant references to magpies. It's anyone's guess what the third book's avian will be (though I have my hopes that it'll be kookaburras). If you've a kid who was entranced by Molly in her first adventure, have little fear that this second number is a doozy. It's better than its predecessor and fun to boot. I do have to wonder what British readers think about a English heroine who has all her fun adventures in America, and who distances herself more and more from the Motherland. Ah well. Such concerns are not your own. This is a great book and a wonderful addition to any library. It will, at the very least, keep you from boredom. In fact, you may have difficulty prying it from your childrens' hands.
