Book Description

8 and up3 and up
Molly the pony waits. She waits in her stall. She waits during the storm. She waits for her owner to return.

So begins the true story of a patient pony who is rescued from a south Louisiana barn after Hurricane Katrina and finds a new life on a farm with new animal friends. But Molly's tale of courage does not end here.

When a dog on the farm attacks Molly, her front leg is badly injured. For a pony, a damaged leg is life threatening. To the amazement of veterinarians, though, Molly rises to her new challenge. She undergoes a rare surgery for horses: amputation of her front leg. Now fitted with a prosthetic limb, Molly relearns how to walk and embarks again on a new mission in life: making new people friends.

This plucky pony's story of survival and friendship will win the hearts of readers young and old. All who have had to start over after displacement, abandonment, injury, or amputation will find a friend in Molly as they follow her story of bringing a smile to everyone she meets.

5.0 out of 5 stars Positive story about the courage of a horse and the people who rallied to support it, April 29, 2008
This review is from: Molly the Pony: A True Story (Hardcover)
This book is an excellent example of perseverance. Despite the many challenges for both the horse and all the people involved in the story everything works out for everyone. The people rally behind the horse to save it. It is a very uplifting and inspirational book. As a mother of two children I would definitely recommend this book. There are several positive life lessons that can be learned by all children who read this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Disabled Pony Overcomes Challenges, May 2, 2008
This review is from: Molly the Pony: A True Story (Hardcover)
Molly the pony was injured in the aftermath of hurricane Katrina, but caring people worked to save her life. She lost a leg to infection that set in after she was attacked by a dog, but an LSU vet and a prosthetist helped her heal and walk again with an artificial leg. This simple account, complete with photographs, is a wonderful book for anyone, but especially for a child who faces difficulties because of being "different." In fact, it would be great for any child, disabled or not, to teach empathy and compassion.

5.0 out of 5 stars Molly the pony, August 24, 2008
This review is from: Molly the Pony: A True Story (Hardcover)
We purchased the books to donate to a local hospital's childrens department. This book shares the hardships of a brave little pony who worked with her doctors and owner to overcome a monumental medical problem. It goes on to show that even after the loss of her leg the other ponies still accepted her and and shows that she is still able to live a happy life. It's an inspiration for children facing major medical problems.
