Now I Love to Read!,
This review is from: Molly's Boxed Set (The American Girls Collection) (Paperback)
I like the Molly books very much. They are some of the best books I've ever read. Valerie Tripp did a wonderful job telling a story about a young girl during World War II. Molly has an adventuresome spirit. I think just about any girl would enjoy the American Girls Collection. They are a big page turner. I could read an entire book in one day if I had the time. I've already read the complete Samantha series, which is my favorite so far. I never really liked to read until my grandmother gave me the American Girls books.

Happy Birthday, Molly! (Book 4),
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Molly's Boxed Set (The American Girls Collection) (Paperback)
I think this book is awesome! During war time, if you had a birthday like Molly did, you could still get a cake and special birthday presents at a party. Molly even got a puppy! During WWII, some English girls had to move out of their homes and away from their parents because England was too dangerous for them. Germany was bombing London. Emily was such a girl, and she thought about things very differently than Molly. Molly learned that it was hard to leave your family and go to a stranger's house. She also learned that war is not a game. It is very real for those who have to suffer through it. For Emily, nothing about the war was exciting, including blackout drills. You could compare Emily's life to the lives of children in Israel and Lebanon, where there is fighting now. It makes me feel very sad for the kids who are living there.

My kids love these books and so do I.,

This review is from: Molly's Boxed Set (The American Girls Collection) (Paperback)
Each night, I read a chapter to my daughter, age 5 1/2, and my son, age 7. One reason they can't wait for me to return from my business trips is so they can find out what's going to happen to Molly next. My kids really enjoy the stories and all the characters. I think the writing is pretty good - appropriate and understandable for children - and the stories are fun and well-paced. "A peek into the past" at the end of each book is also fun to read with my kids. It's nice to show them how people lived in those days. I never thought my kids would actually look forward to bedtime, but now they do!

Will Help Your Child Love to Read,
By Green Marker Girl "Bernadette" (Washington, DC) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Molly's Boxed Set (The American Girls Collection) (Paperback)
Molly Mcintire, a young girl living in America during World War 2, faces many challenges in her life. Her father is off fighting in the war. He brother, Ricky, is a pest. Her sister has discovered boys and other things about growing up, and has little time fro Molly. And her little brother is just silly, and doesn't understand the war. But Molly certainly does. She understands that collecting recyclables for the war effort will help to bring her father home sooner ( and will win her and her friends the class competition). She understands that she must eat the icky turnips from the victory garden for the war effort. And she understands that she has to wear her brother's old galoshes because the rubber is, of course, needed for the war effort.
Despite all the challenges, Molly manages to remain cheerful, even when Ricky ruins their Halloween when he surprise attacks her and her friend with a hose. But at the end of the story, all of Molly's hard work pays off - in the most beautiful way you can expect. A very, very sweets series. I loved it as a child, and I suggest reading it to young children.

I bought this set of books for my daughter's 8th birthday. She loved them. We read them together. I usually read for us but my daughter read some to me. She really could relate to Molly. Some parts I thought we silly but I am over 30 now. I like how it gets my daughter and myself into history and learning new things. Molly lived during World War 2 and her father, a doctor, was over in England. The family has their problems and miss their dad but keep doing their part at home. Molly is my daughter's new favorite. We have read many of the other American Girl books and will continue!

Wonderfully written, beautifully illustrated.,
This review is from: Molly's Boxed Set (The American Girls Collection) (Paperback)
The American Girl series greatly impacted me as a child, and continue to do so as an adult. My seven year old and five year old nephews just love listening to the stories about Molly. They love the history and they love the illustrations. I recommend this series to anyone...young or old, boy or girl.

I don't think you can wrong with the American Girl books. The stories are wonderful. If you can't afford the hard cover these are just as wonderful. Keep them in the box and the books will stay nice and neat for many hours of reading.
We especially love the Molly books because it is close enough in history that our daughters can relate (this happened when grandma was a girl).

Molly's Surprise (Book 3),
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Molly's Boxed Set (The American Girls Collection) (Paperback)
I think this book was great! I learned that just because your father is out fighting in the war, it doesn't mean that Christmas or any type of holiday has to be ruined. You can still have fun, no matter what. Molly's family still put up their Christmas tree and lights to celebrate. Also, if a box comes in the mail and it says "Keep it hidden until Christmas", keep it hidden and don't ruin the surprise. Molly and her sister and brothers enjoyed sledding in the snow in 1944 like I do now. Then they came back in to enjoy hot cocoa and a warm breakfast, just like I do. Even though it was war time, Molly still got what she wished for.

Well......,
This review is from: Molly's Boxed Set (The American Girls Collection) (Paperback)
Its not that I hated Molly McCintire's character, although I thought she and her siblings needed to be kinder to one another and I wondered why her mother allowed them act like that, but the problem is her books are so...boring.
I don't find myself very excited about her story. It would've been more interesting if she did something exciting for her country! Her story takes place in war, right? And another thing, why can't the news of the war affect Molly a little more? Why can't she stand up strong for her country? I know exciting things were short to come by because she's not really in a battlefield, but come on, make the books more tantilizing! I have trouble finishing them when I read them, I just can't force myself to stick to it! I am in no way saying other people can't like it, you can like it if you want, its your choice. But for myself I found this collection so bland.
