Her Place at the Table

When Molly Bloom was a little girl growing up in a small Colorado town, she watched her brothers win medals, ace tests, and receive high praise from everyone they met. Molly wanted nothing more than to bask in that glow a little herself, so she pushed herself too—as a student, as an athlete. She was successful but felt like she was always coming from behind. She wanted to break free, to find a life without rules and limits, a life where she didn't have to measure up to anyone or anything—where she could become whatever she wanted.

Molly wanted more, and she got more than she could have ever bargained for.

In Molly's Game, Molly Bloom takes the reader through her adventures running an exclusive high-stakes private poker game. Her clients ranged from iconic stars like Leonardo DiCaprio and Ben Affleck to politicians and financial titans so powerful they moved markets and changed the course of history. With rich detail, Molly describes a world that until now has been shrouded in glamour, privilege, and secrecy, one where she fearlessly took on the Russian and Italian mobs—until she met the one adversary she could not outsmart, even though she had justice on her side: the United States government.

Molly's Game is an incredible coming-of-age story about a young girl who rejected convention in pursuit of her version of the American dream. It's the story of how she gained—and then lost—her place at the table, and of everything she learned about poker, love, and life in the process.

I was so excited to read this book as soon as it came out. It doesn't disappoint. Refreshingly, Ms. Bloom is very generous with details, names and places. She's also very candid about her own downfall. I was left wishing the book was a little longer--that there was more time spent on the Hollywood portion of the story. Hilarious details about Tobey Maguire make this (fairly pricey) e- book worth reading for that alone.
Ms. Bloom keeps the pace moving in the perfect summer book. Very entertaining!

I loved this book! I read a smaller portion in vanity fair and wanted to read more. I'm so glad I did.

The author writes with so much humility and honesty. I could definitely relate to her experiences even if I haven't been in the exact situations. Her writing was totally engaging and I basically read the entire thing within a day. She seemed like the kind of person I'd love to be friends with.

I wish it were longer, and I wish she'd let us know what she's up to now.

This was a great book and, as others have said, a very fast read. Bloom takes you quickly through her formative childhood, but gives you enough detail to provide a background against which her later actions can be contrasted. She makes some adult decisions that could be judged harshly, but really, who wouldn't have chosen the same path, given the circumstances? The entire story has a very human aspect to it and the detailed information she provides about the notable people in her orbit is fascinating. If it was a fictional story it would still be good but hard to believe. The fact that it all happened in real life makes it all the more engaging. I highly recommend it even if you're not a poker player or even interested in the game.

I remember seeing this in the news a couple years ago and being so intrigued. So when I heard about this book I had to read it.

It's a very easy read, and flows well. It reads like a hollywood movie. The small town girl from Colorado, runs off to Los Angeles with no real plan, to escape the shadow of her more successful brothers. She stumbles into a job with a young successful entrepreneur with hollywood connections and a penchant for high stakes poker. A rags to riches path is described in great detail, as Molly goes from the girl who didn't know anything about poker, to hosting the biggest games in the country.

There are love stories, mobsters, and some of the biggest celebrities, and richest businessmen in the world. You can't help but get caught up in the tale as you gain keen insight into the lives of the rich and famous who choose poker as their addiction of choice. You also learn about the character of some highly public people. Tobey Maguire in particular is painted in a light, completely opposite the shy timid roles he usually plays.

I finished this book in one day as it was so entertaining. When I was done, I had to look up more information about the author and the larger than life story she lived through.

Light summer read...it was just what I was looking for. I had read the Vanity Fair excerpt and wanted more. I downloaded this to my Kindle and brought it with me to Las Vegas for a short vacation. I didn't want to put it down! It was a quick and fun read, exactly what I was looking for in a vacation book. If you like the excerpt, the book will not disappoint. She gives a lot of details and also I enjoyed living vicariously through her as she accumulated her wealth, and started spending money shopping, traveling and her homes and cars.

Most tell-all stories have three sides and I have a feeling this has one true one and that it's Molly's. I can't say I respect her, but I can appreciate the life lessons she will teach the many people who will read this book and that when she knew better, she did better. Very well written story of a little savvy princess in the world of high stakes gambling

I really enjoyed reading this book, as it took a lot of courage for her to acutally write it. I had the pleasure of meeting Molly during her "glory days" when I was in a relationship with one of her "clients". She truly is a smart lady and I hope she can prevail through all this.
