5.0 out of 5 stars great party for older girls, November 1, 2007
This review is from: Molly's Mystery Party Game (American Girl Collection) (Misc. Supplies)
My daughter loves American Girl everything! She wanted to have her party at home this year (for her 12th birthday). Molly's Mystery Party Game was perfect. She invited 5 girls. She played Molly, the girls were the other 5 female characters, my son played the brother character and I was the housekeeper. It took them just over an hour to solve the mystery. They ate their snacks (which is part of the script) during the game. I video taped them and then showed the video later that night. They also watched the Molly movie that night. I think this was a great party game and it worked very well with girls this age because they could really get into character. I loved it as well because everything was included (invitations, scripts, pre-printed clues, parent guide) and it was simple to prepare for the party.

5.0 out of 5 stars great fun, July 31, 2008

We had this party for an eleven year old and the girls wanted to do it again! There are parts for 8 players plus a mom. One of the characters is a boy - a brother. It is very suited for Halloween or a dress-up theme, the idea being who stole the Halloween candy. We made masks before starting the party to set the theme and then had a treasure hunt to find the Halloween candy. We put the bags of candy in a closet as part of the play. Be sure the players are all fluent readers. One could play the part of the mother if needed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great birthday party!!, September 20, 2009

We did this for my daughter's tenth birthday -- the girls had a blast! One of the moms didn't have anything to do that evening and was going to stay around to help with the party; I gave her the role of Molly's mom, so there was no one playing the game that knew the outcome. The girls had a wonderful time role-playing, and one of the girls, whose mom always goes "all out" for her parties, begged me to tell her mom about it so she could do this for her birthday.

There are recipes for easy snacks (my daughter and I made them together before the party) and a list of simple items needed for the game; it could not have been easier. I'm NOT an "all out" party mom, but I sure felt like one at the end of this one! We'll be looking for the other games next year -- it seems American Girl has discontinued them! (They ALWAYS do this and it peeves me to no end...)

5.0 out of 5 stars Great!, June 25, 2009

We used this game for my daughter's 9th birthday party. It was wonderful! It made party planning so easy -- having the invitations, scripts, clues, etc. We had more girls than the script allowed, but it was easy to use photocopy the character cards while changing the names on them and marking the script to change some of the lines to be spoken by the new characters. I definitely recommend having an adult read the housekeeper role. My daughter convinced her sister to play the brother so that we did not have to assign any of the guests to the "boy" role. The girls all brought costumes and really got into the game.

Since it was a sleepover, we followed up the game with a showing of the Molly movie, which only one girl had seen. Really a fun party and very easy. And a very affordable party!
