A Must Read for free Americans,
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Molon Labe! (Paperback)
What would happen if a bunch of freedom loving Americans concentrated in Wyoming, and transformed the state political system to favor liberty? Well, an intriguing and suspenseful story for one thing! Hint, the federal government doesn't take kindly to a state government respecting and enforcing the entire Bill of Rights. Halfway between a political/espionage thriller, and a historical novel with documentation, 'Molon Labe' is a great read. If you think liberty is in precious short supply in this great land of ours, you'll be cheering.

Glad to admit I was wrong,
By Tony Nocialino "myglock36" (citizen of the world) - See all my reviews

Having read most of Boston's other work I was more than a little skeptical when I first heard about his foray into fiction. Boy was I wrong. It was a great read and once I picked it up I couldn't put it down. Molon Labe is full of the same insight and humor that you've come to expect from his other works. So YES!, Boston CAN write fiction! (Leaving the only question "When's the sequel?". I can't wait to catch up on the continuing adventures of "the panther").

The First "Free State Project" Novel,
By
This review is from: Molon Labe! (Paperback)
Boston T. Party, a notable author of well-respected works on firearms and the Constitution, creates his first work of fiction with the novel Molon Labe! While it's certainly not formatted as a conventional novel, Molon Labe! is a worthy addition to any freedom-lovers book shelf. Set in the coming decades, it's a chronicle of the "Wyoming Free State Project," where thousands of liberty-seekers migrate to that state to control the government and turn it into a bastion of freedom. The novel is interspersed with commentaries and "interview" format chapters, which sometimes overshadow the narrative. Still, this is the first of what is bound to be a new genre of libertarian literature, and will be much referenced in the future as such scenarios become increasingly likely.
Matt Bracken, author of "Enemies Foreign And Domestic" and "Domestic Enemies: The Reconquista."

Good book with some flaws,
By Kyle Lassiter "Therapist and Life Coach" (Colorado, United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Molon Labe! (Paperback)
First let me say; I liked the book. It was worth reading for those who love freedom and love the intricacies of a good story.
The asides, to deliver information or viewpoint, were sometimes distracting, but almost always interesting. I don't mind a stories flow being interrupted, but I do know it bothers some people, so be aware that if side trips bother you, this may not be the book for you. Overall, it was what I would rate as very good and I have no doubt that future efforts will be even better. I hope Mr. Royce continues writing.

Engrossing...but flawed,
By
This review is from: Molon Labe! (Paperback)
I'll keep this short and sweet. If you enjoy historic fiction set in the future and are a lover of liberty, then there is much this book has to offer. The frequent interruption of the main story with brief asides, such as newspaper articles, quotations, and current events (current for the portion of the story interrupted) is an unusual and refreshing variant in novels that I had not encountered till now. The major future historical events of the story are probable outcomes of preceding events, so that the main story rarely rings false. Many of the characters are well balanced, but there are notable exceptions, such as many of the evil DC officials. Though the majority of government officials in real life are quite immoral, power hungry, and ignorant, to portray them as satanists in some massive satanist conspiracy is unrealistic. This is, I have to say, the fault which carries the greatest weight in my mind, and prevents me from giving an otherwise enjoyable book five stars.

Very Worthwhile,
By
This review is from: Molon Labe! (Paperback)
Utopian and survivalist fiction tends to be somewhat uneven. They typically contain interesting storylines that are marred by less than compelling prose and miraculous circumstances that border on the unbelievable. Molon Labe avoids the former but occasionally skirts the latter. Like many stories of this genre the main character is wealthy, virile, and charismatic. He's able to draw many talented people to his cause, people who have the right answers at the right time. Okay, I can accept that this might happen, after all the Founding Fathers drew many talented people to the cause of freedom and liberty. And, vast wealth helps advance the plot. Where Molon Labe skirts the unbelievable are the two aces that Preston has up his sleeve toward the end of the story. I won't go into them for those who haven't read the story, but it suffices to say that Preston is one very lucky individual. The other jarring note is the "spiritual" aims of the president and his staff. It seems discordant with the flow of the story, but largely serves to establish the motives of one individual in his support of freedom.
Truthfully, these issues are minor and Molon Labe is a very worthwhile read. As others have noted the story revolves around an attempt by a group of freedom minded individuals to stop the encroaching federal tyranny that is threatening to suffocate us. Led by James Wayne Preston, this talented group of folks come to power in Wyoming and begin creating a state where individual liberty and personal responsibility are the law of the land. It's a vision of what a healthy, mature society might become. A vision worth fighting for. Naturally the statists who run this country cannot abide free thinking individuals who have the clout and will to oppose them and move to stop this political evolution. In the course of developing this plot Boston is able to delve into the roots of liberty while taking us through a story that is compelling and hopeful. While the outcome is utopian, the hunger for freedom that imbues the story is one that we should all take to heart. It reminds us that liberty is not free, that there is a level of vigilance and a cost we all must pay to remain a free society. Just as his Gun Bible delves into more complex issues than what caliber of battle rifle is most efficient, so Molon Labe delves into the the issues of what constitutes true freedom and the self-discipline necessary for this freedom to flourish. It's a novel guaranteed to send chills down the backs of any statists who chance to read it.

A great read, and incentive to take action,
By
This review is from: Molon Labe! (Paperback)
After writing fine, pro-liberty non-fiction for over a decade, Boston's first work of fiction is a definite winner. While I personally liked "Unintended Consequences" a bit more (sorry, KR), I do think it's superior to the other books of this genre that I've encountered, such as "Patriots" and "Let Us Prey" - both excellent books, as well. Plus, at less than half the physical size of "Consequences", it's a much less intimidating introduction to liberty to offer those sheeple who might be "on the fence." As did other reviewers, I bought multiple copies so that I can loan them out, and spread the word more quickly. And some of the folks that I loaned to have already bought their own copies, so it's working!
I hope Boston has plans to write more of this sort.

I have given away this book to anyone who is of like mind, and am going to order even more copies to keep doing the same. Not only an excellent read, but also a quite feasible plan. Too bad Congress will never get around to reading this one...
If you believe in liberty, freedom, and keeping what you earn, then this is a book you will fall in love with. While Atlas Shrugged just made me angry, Molon Labe left me laughing out loud and cheering on the characters. Totally believable. BEST. POLITICAL. FICTION. BOOK. EVER.

What would happen if a group of freedom-loving Americans (a rare group today) decided they wanted the freedom that made this land great? How could they go about doing that?
The blueprint is HERE. 1 Tim 2:2 tells us that God wants a government to be good and, basically except to punish evil, STAY OUT OF OUR WAY. I made a mistake with Molon Labe. I owned it almost 2 years before reading it. "Life gets in the way" and all that. As I said, it was a mistake. You don't have to make that mistake. You should read Molon Labe if you ever talk about "freedom" but do little about it. This book will spur you, will get your juices flowing. THIS book will show you how to put your words into action, perhaps for the first time. Do you love to talk about the right to carry a firearm but you don't carry one yourself? Hypocrite. It's time to change for the better. This is the first step. The second step is to read Boston's Gun Bible. With all due respect to Col. Jeff Cooper, Boston T's Gun Bible is the best book ever published for gun owners, gun carriers, and those who think they should but have no idea where to begin. Arm yourself. A good start would be .308, .45, Boston T's Gun Bible, and Molon Labe. Then you have a good start. It's up to you to turn that inventory into skill.

I'm going to Wyoming!!!,
This review is from: Molon Labe! (Paperback)
Some books change your life. "Atlas Shrugged" was the first for me--much of what has become my philosophy of life stems from Ms. Rand's opus of Objectivism. Mr. Ross' "Unintended Consequences" was another; I realized that philosophy and theory without action is useless. Without action, philosophy is a contradiction itself, like refining the detail on a roadmap without ever going anywhere.
Now that I've read Boston T. Party's "Molon Labe!" I know where I'm going. I'M GOING TO WYOMING!!! The plan is simple. Don't like what's going on where you are? Don't think one person can change things within the system? Still think it's too early to shoot the bastards? (Thanks, Ms. Wolfe) Vote with your feet! Go somewhere where other people want to live the same way. If you want the Mommy State to plan and live your life for you, move to New York or Massachusetts. If you want the last chance to live free, then join Boston in Wyoming and be ready to work for it. I'm going. Boston T. Party tells a great story of folks who are tired of living under government's thumb--government which has violated its contract and usurped the sovereignty of the citizens. These fed-up (pardon the pun) individuals convince other freedom-lovers to join them in Wyoming with enough strength to gain a voice in the state's government. If you want to know the rest, buy the book. I recommend the hardcover--it's strong enough to stand up to all the people you will pass it on to. Imagine living your life without having to ask permission. Imagine wearing your gun on your hip as a Roman wore his sword, proving you are free. Imagine buying and selling with markers of actual value--not worthless government scrip. Imagine . . . . |
