Good quality and unique feel!

I've owned some great composite balls as well as the official NBA leather ball from Spalding so I may have a better perspective than some.

Hey Molten, what's up with the slick ball... why does Wilson leather feel and react so much better?

This basketball will deceive you when you first receive it because it does feel like a cheap, synthetic outdoor ball. It will also be very slick; I guarantee you that on more than one occasion it will slip right out of your hands when going up for the shot, especially if your hands are sweaty. And nobody will want to play pick-up games with it either.

That being said however, one must remember that this is a leather basketball and it must be broken in. My brother has the NBA ball and when it was new, it was just as slick and "cheap" feeling as the Molten ball. But once these balls are broken in, they're the best basketballs you'll ever play with. Leather basketballs are practically the opposite of synthetic balls -- a synthetic ball feels great when new, but becomes hardened and slick over time; a leather ball feels hardened and slick when new, but ends up feeling great over time. Even better than great: the more you use it, the more it is bounced and played with, the more the ball absorbs the properties of the gym, the better it becomes.

So here's my advice if you get this ball: go to the gym and work on your dribbling and work on your shot. Ironically, because it lacks the grip of synthetic balls (until it's broken in), it actually forces you to properly shoot and dribble the ball. And once it's broken in, you'll wonder how you ever played the game all those times with the synthetic balls.

I have one of these Molten GL7 genuine leather balls that's 9 months old and gets used 3-4 times a week and its a better ball than the NBA genuine leather ball which I have also owned. The thing most people dont like is the synthetic surface that wears off with use but then the leather panels become plainly visible and thats when the fun begins!!!!! I played basketball through high school and college and this ball is the best ball I have ever played with. I primarily shoot from the NBA 3 point line and beyond to half court to challenge myself now that I'm 50 yrs old and not as mobile as I used to be and it holds my shot stroke line perfectly and the yellow panels really show you if your backspin rotation is proper. The problem with us spoiled Americans is we want everything yesterday and if its not ready to go on our 90 mph schedule, we get whiney. Well if you're a whiner, dont buy this ball-you're not worthy of it!!! Buy a $15 composite from Walmart and when you can't shoot or handle that ball you can use the money you saved to buy a box of Kleenex tissues and when you give up you haven't lost too much!!!! This ball is not for candy-azzes and crybabies!!!!

Great ball for indoor play! Excellent quality and the unique design allows you to locate your ball quickly when needed. I've had mine for just over a month and it is still in the break in process. It's a little slick at first be gets better with wear. Most players know its a quality ball at first touch. You won't find a better basketball for the money!

I received this item at the end of November 2011. Fantastic packaging, secure. I was concerned about the ball being warped in transit.

When you first open and handle the Molten GL7 Indoor Leather Basketball 29.5, you it feels like it's a fake because it is so slick. You search all over the internet for reviews and images to vet it's authenticity.

After that, I decided to give it a try and shoot with it. I have spent a month practicing with it 3 to 4 times a week. Needless to say, I have grown accustomed to the feel and I love it. I have read where it has been described as a 'shooters ball' and I tend to agree with them. It has 12 panels instead of 8 which allows your finger tips the extra channels to increase the rotation. It doesn't have the tac that new micro composite basketballs have, but I agree with one reviewer and this ball forces you to shoot correctly (using your legs with elbow in and high release with the extra rotation that the extra channels provide).

With all this said, I still haven't convinced any groups that I play with twice a week to try it in our pick up games.

Feels superior to the spaulding leather game ball. Having played against pro players in tournaments and in workouts, there are many allegiances to diffferent brands. This ball gets the nod pretty often. Until the ball breaks in get yourself some powder for your hands. NBA players complain that this ball is too slippery, and it is (the 1st couple of uses or if it gets too much sweat on it.) Real leather compared to Spaulding's (pig) leather, they're both made in China, and this ball cost's one-third of the cost of the Spaulding leather game ball. P.S. It is very important that you check the year stamped under the FIBA sign. The 2003-2007 leather rips away from the ball (unfortunately it's the darker ball which looks better). Look for the 2011 version to be safe (which is lighter, check the pictures before you order).

The purpose of this review is to clarify some things about this Molten GL7 basketball. The recent reviews on it are simply unhelpful and in fact misleading because very few details were given; they seemed more upset about the price than about the ball itself. I've owned some great composite balls as well as the official NBA leather ball from Spalding so I may have a better perspective than some. So here it is. If you want a nice box and hype literature, don't get this ball. (It came in a plastic bag tied by a rubber band with a short note inside about how you need to break in the ball. Nothing else.) However, if you just want one of the very best basketballs the world has to offer, buy it now. Today was the third straight day (three hours each day) I've played with this basketball exclusively and it gets better each time. It's great fun and I've been loving every minute of it. Lots of net swishes from behind the three point line today. Unlike the Spalding ball which in my experience is pretty much ready to play right out of the box (the leather has little to no gloss), you will definitely need to break in this ball because the leather has a hard gloss to it you'll need to soften up to give it more grip and sweat absorption. I've already had several compliments about how nice the ball is -- the first within five minutes! The orange and cream color contrast is easily noticeable and recognizable from the Olympics I suppose. I've not have one comment about my Spalding official NBA ball which is fine with me because I'm more interested in the ball performance than the looks. But the Molten GL7 will turn heads that's for sure and I can see why it's good enough for the very best basketball players in the world, not just the USA. Again if you really like your NBA ball or professional basketballs in general, get this basketball. Simple as that. Your collection definitely isn't complete without it.
