5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Biblical Wisdom March 15, 2006
Format:Paperback
As with all of Elizabeth George's books, A Mom After God's Own Heart is a solid, practical, and very BIBLICAL look at what it means to be a woman who seeks the Lord. This book is filled with excellent application for a mother's day to day life, yet succeeds in dealing with "heart issues" rather than just being a "to-do list." I was encouraged and inspired by this read.

3.0 out of 5 stars frustrating but good thoughts April 28, 2011
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
First off- this book has great reminders of how to be a great mom and a constant witness. Great ideas for the everyday and has a very encouraging uplifting 'tone' to the book.
But here is where I'm completely frustrated: The writing is awful. I'll read through a chapter and find that I'm rereading the same section over and over and over and I'm just confused. The author uses parenthesis constantly (like this!!), even when not needed (for example). Maybe I am being too picky but beyond the general grammar, the actual substance is, again, frustrating. In an entire paragraph there will only be a single sentence of the authors personal commentary and the rest is filled with random authors and speakers. Some introduced and some not. Then there are whole sections where an example, or rather an analogy, is being used that is so vague or hard to follow that it detracts from the actual point, or the analogy is so poignant and then the topic abruptly switches and the reader is left dangling, confused.
Examples read like this: 'An author said "in a study children were....".' What Author? What study is that author referring to? This author isn't using any of her own deductions or reasoning, she's using an unnamed author to make a point from an unnamed study. I'm sure there are footnotes at the back, but I'm disillusioned from the lack of personal, well, authoring. Also, something that I'm sure is supposed to be endearing, is the style of writing. The author writes like she's giving a presentation or a speech, and then inserts personal talking points to you, most of the time in parenthesis and very distracting.
All that to say: great topic, great ideas, but challenging to follow along and frustrating to read.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Book April 11, 2013
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I really kind of felt that this book would be better suited for moms of younger children. Not for me a mom with older children. (14 and 11). I liked the book but I felt like the Author repeated herself over and over.

3.0 out of 5 stars A Bit Discouraging November 25, 2011
By Seh
Format:Paperback
I did love most of this book. However there was this nagging feeling that I already missed the mark and could not really catch up with teaching my kids the values that we want to. In the book she talks about how her kids were young (perhaps 3ish) and how she had already missed so much about teaching her kids. I am sorry but with three kids under four, I do not have much time or energy to be constantly filling them with the teachings of God. The book made me feel bad and I doubt that I have messed up my four year old in this matter. I do have to rely on Sunday School and tidbits and prayer during the day, but cannot devote the time that I felt that she was asking me to. Seems more ideal than what is reality.

5.0 out of 5 stars Similar to her other books October 20, 2008

This is a great book for Moms at any stage. It's even better for someone who is pregnant. It goes into the principals that God has laid out for a mother. His ultimate plan for us as mothers. We are to teach our children to pray even before they can speak! She goes into really great craft ideas to incorperate into your daily routine with your kids or grandkids. It really is a great book.
