The roots of one of the key Darkwave bands ., February 17, 1999
This review is from: Moment in Time (Audio CD)
A Moment in Time is a compilation of rare and out-of-print singles and EP`s ; Many of the tracks are from the time the Band was called Death in the Dark and also included a real live drummer. Stand out cuts are : Reality is lost ( sounding like a heavier Joy Division), To Turn away ( more of the same Joy division influence) ,all in all the album is fascinating as it brings to light the roots of this magnificent band. What else can I say? buy it , there are no weak tracks. buy all Ikon albums for they are really worth the investment.

Strong dark rock with some energy, March 31, 2003
This review is from: Moment in Time (Audio CD)
How to sum this album up... The sound is easy to recommend: very, very heavy Joy Division influence; an emotional core as well as an energetic approach at the right times. Some tracks have an almost U2-like energy from the drumming to the simple but effective guitar parts. Sounds like a stripped-down Children of Stun at times. The lyrics may be a weakness; they're too much of what you would expect from a "goth" rock group. The intonations of the singer about death and dying and everything being so sad is not overbearing but simply unnecessary. In general though, the music is good enough to overshadow the pretentious air about this. There is a timeless quality to the sound that reminds one of post-punk and of a depressed U2. It's a timeless sound in a way and generally a pretty agreeable group of songs. Again, the overly depressed sound of the singer may well detract at times, but there's a quiet honesty here that appeals. The band would get more synth-heavy with time, but this is an excellent collection of material for new or old fans.

That Special Moment In Time, August 30, 2002
This review is from: Moment in Time (Audio CD)
Fantastic! This album has a very straight forward sound that cuts straight to the heart of things. As opposed to all Ikon albums to follow, these songs are much more stripped down. With less electronic layering, their songs remain vastly atomospheric and emotive with raw power. You hear the band evolve with each track. If you enjoy the less electro/industrial/dance side of Goth(the only kind of Goth I enjoy), you will fall in love with this album. Equally enjoyable to Joy Division's greatest works, but stirring emotions on a slightly less level. If you're new to Ikon, buy this album first.
