Book Description

New contemporary romance by the author of the bestselling romance 'Always'

Jared Barrett was the perfect man for Kelsey Layton…for one whole year.

What’s a girl to do when she’s seen enough of marriage and divorce to convince her that love is only temporary? Kelsey determines to enjoy dating and the giddy infatuation it involves, but never let herself forget the inevitable end.

Then Kelsey realizes her best friend, Doug, thinks he’s in love with her, while her only sister, Amy, is desperately in love with Doug. Kelsey knows love is a short-term insanity and she’s too smart to take it seriously, but Amy feels differently.

To avoid hurting her sister, Kelsey has to convince Doug that she’ll never love him…and she’s got to do it fast.

Millionaire bachelor Jared Barrett rides to the rescue. He’s had his eye on Kelsey, his unerring instinct telling him that she’s the one woman for him. But he knows how Kelsey feels about happily-ever-after and he’s not about to waste his breath talking. Instead, when Kelsey mutters in despair that she needs a husband—Jared proposes.

What follows is romance, love and a marriage of convenience with a groom who’s trying to hide his heart while convincing his bride that love really can last forever.

"Carol Rose's Momentary Marriage, was one of the best romance books I've read in a long while."~5 Star Amazon review.

From the Author

Long before I started writing romance, I was a romance reader! I love the books of Kristan Higgins, Jill Shalvis, Meg Cabot and Rachel Gibson. I grew up reading Anne Stuart and Jayne Ann Krentz and enjoyed be drawn into the adventures and the challenges facing brave heroines and bold heroes.
While I love rereading old favorites, I particularly enjoy exploring books by new and newly-discovered authors, too.

2.0 out of 5 stars She is so irritating December 2, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I really want to give this one three stars, but Kelsey turned out to be so extremely irritating that I just wanted to get through with this book.

I understand Kelsey had all of these issues based on her non existent relationship with her father, and her mother's marital behavior. Her sister Amy decided that Doug was in love with her and not Kelsey. Both women had issues.

Yes, Jared did manipulate the situation. As far as I could tell, Kelsey bought into the manipulation to keep her sister from leaving. So, how was her behavior that much different from Jared's?

Anyway, her reactions to discovering his manipulation, and him not being a 'nice' guy in business was so irritating, it was really hard for me to finish the book.

1.0 out of 5 stars Too drawn out December 29, 2013
By Adyna
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The preview was a good story line that sounded like a good read. But the book was so look drawn out and filled with indecision that it became boring. Kelsey went from sweet to indecisive and miserable. I slipped over most of the reading just to get to the end. At least it was free, not even worth $0.99 sorry to say!!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your climatic moments here January 5, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This story started of promising and somewhere lost the luster midway through the book. The author might have just been wanting to fill a page quota because five of the chapters recited the same point over and over. The ending was very lame.

4.0 out of 5 stars It was entertaining, although unbelievable. July 29, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I enjoyed the book, it was witty and entertaining. It made me think a little of Jane Austin's Pride and Prejudice, modern P&P light, because this is on par with modern romances, not classic worthy like Jane, but still entertaining. Two sisters in love with two friends, with the cynical sister ending up in love with a wealthy witty man and miscommunications and drama abound,**spoiler** while the more optimistic sister ends up with the man she thought she should be with the whole time. I enjoyed the thoughts of the main characters and the different perspectives. I kind of disliked how all the perspectives flowed together too well. No one with that much drama will view the situation the same as the person next to them, it felt too plotted and one dimensional. I felt the characters insight was a bit too well timed. A bit overly cliched. I don't think that many people in a situation will be that insightful at just the right moment, which made the book feel fake and forced to me. It was also a bit straight forward, From the beginning you get a sense of what will happen, and that is exactly what happens. But it was a free book, and it was entertaining, and the concept was new and intriguing. Worth reading the first time, not worth re-reading.

4.0 out of 5 stars Dysfunctional lovers hit the jackpot August 5, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
There is a love triangle between Kelsey, her sister Amy and their friend Doug, though Kelsey never saw it that way until Amy went to Kelsey saying that she is moving to London because she is heartbroken. This could have been a very interesting love story on its own, but Cupid had other plans.

Enter Jared Barrett - handsome bachelor who also happens to be a hotel magnate. Kelsey felt a strong attraction to him, but she refuse to acknowledge it. But, Jared had other plans and that is where the fun began.

Entertaining from page 1 but it turned dull about 3/4 of the way. There are so many places that will just make you laugh. As expected in comedy-drama, a catharsis has to happen to bring the characters into the next level. And that is where this story was a bit lacking. Somehow, instead of raising the level of a reader's involvement, the story turned out flat. The once vibrant Kelsey, Jared, Amy and Doug became two-dimensional. It felt rushed, as if the author had to have only so many pages to bring the story to an end.

This story is PG 13 for some sex scenes which are very far from being erotica.

3.0 out of 5 stars Better than a Three Star, but not a Four Star February 23, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
If there was an option for a three and a half star rating, that's what I would give this book. I'm not comfortable with rounding up to a four star, so three it is.

I really wanted to like this book more than I did. The concept - a marriage of convenience - is hardly a new one, but I was excited to read the author's take on this plot thread. I expected a breezy, fun read and I got that in parts.

As an aside, I think the book would benefit from undergoing another pass through with editing. There were minor errors both grammatically and formatting wise that were littered throughout. I'm not basing my rating on those, as I didn't find them distracting enough to warrant ridicule, but still feel like they should be addressed. My rating is based solely on the storyline.

I found the main character, Kelsey, to be annoying at times. The fact that she has a less than optimistic outlook on marriage and relationships was very heavy-handed. Each time her love interest, Jared, would do something nice for her, she immediately discounted it. Yes, her mother had been through a string of husbands and her father was non-existent throughout her life, but that doesn't automatically mean that the whole institution of marriage is a sham. It was tiring to hear Kelsey explain away Jared's actions as stemming from nothing but ulterior motives every single time. On each instance when her outlook on relationships could have been changing, she went right back to the same old song and dance. With a pessimistic attitude like that, it's no wonder why all of her previous relationships failed.

As important of characters as Amy and Doug were, I don't feel as though their point of view was needed here.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good book
I really enjoyed this story even though the female character is so in her own head that she doesn't realize what is going on around her. Good for a free book.

5.0 out of 5 stars very good read
Very good, the author once again shows her knowledge of how love works. Only a sister can think of something so far fetched to help another sister.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good book that ended too quickly!
I really enjoyed this book. I wish it would have had more at the end or a lengthy epilogue though. I feel like my story was suddenly cut off and left me wanting more.

1.0 out of 5 stars Horrible main character
I kept reading even though I could NOT stand the main character. It's hard to care when you really think they're annoying and you hope they don't get what they want.
