Reviews from Leo Connellan, Richard Wilbur, and Sydney Lea,
This review is from: Moments Between Cities (Paperback)
"John Flynn's poems show originality and his own imagery. They are good and deserve to be read."
Leo Connellan, former poet laureate of Connecticut "I have sampled these poems with pleasure." Richard Wilbur, former poet laureate of U.S.A. "What a pleasure it is, in an era of one unclad emperor after another of the "postmodern" academy's evasions and obliquities, to come on a young writer who addresses things that actually matter in a book of poems! John Michael Flynn speaks of real and recognizable characters in real and recognizable locales; their dreams and their anxieties are -- to use a word now sniffed at by the tenure hounds -- universal in their relevance. I recommend his work to all readers, not just so-called specialists in poetry. Sydney Lea "These poems are not 'absurdly modern' but take the risk of articulating a serious moral gaze." Forrest Gander

An excellent first book by an emerging young poet.,

This review is from: Moments Between Cities (Paperback)
These are poems about people and places. The writing is clear, and unpretentious. These poems together form something like a travelogue, not word-play, but rather the vision of a poet whose eyes and whose heart is open.
