As a veteran of the 1962 invasion of Cuba - it was excellent., May 30, 2010
This review is from: Moments with Fidel (DVD)
I was in Navy Intelligence from 1960 to 1964.
In 1962 I was stationed at NAS Patuxent River, MD, where we were sending U2 spy flights over Cuba from.
This was the Navies major base for planning the invasion of Cuba.
Then the Cubans shot down one of the U2 spy planes.
This film brought back scary memories to me of the invasion, I almost died in.
Powerful film of the heroic Cuban people willing to die for their land reform.
It was a great victory for Cuba. A great defeat for US imperialism.
Truthfully, I really had no idea what was going on in Cuba at the time, so it was very interesting to be able to look at the invasion from the view of the Cuban people.
My job was to keep track of the subs, ships & aircraft around Cuba.
I was trained in Navy Intelligence & Air Traffic Control.
We had spies like Frank Sturgis inside Cuba.
Then as we got closer to the actual invasion, they sent me to the pistol range weekly.
Were were training for 6 months for the invasion.
My job, during the actual beach landing invasion would be to land with the Marines,
with a radio strapped on my back & a .45 pistol on my hip.
I would then me directing helicopters to land Marines on the beaches from the Carriers.
JFK realized this would be a blood bath. Millions of Cubans would die.
JFK made a peace treaty with the Russians & Cuba sent the SAM missiles back to Russia.
JFK ordered the invasion stopped.
The CIA, Pentagon & Bush became very angry with JFK - so they killed him in Dallas.
JFK gave his life to save millions of people in Cuba. JFK is a Cuban hero.
JFK saved my life. I am glad JFK stopped the invasion.
