Review

Mike is a great story teller, and that'll be obvious when you open Moments. He pays such great attention to detail, and that comes from his genuine interest in his subjects. In this book, he has taken some people's very personal moments and turned them into opportunities to teach, inspire, motivate, and encourage. And that's a gift! --Ernie Johnson, 3-Time Emmy-Award Winning Sportscaster for TNT/TBS

In this groundbreaking new book, Mike explores the meaning of a moment and challenges readers to make their lives count for what matters most. Mike explores the meaning of a moment and the wide variety of synonyms that people use to describe a moment such as a split second, a day, a season of life, and a lifetime. Through the use of stories, Mike illustrates how the legacy of our choices, attitude, and responses in a split-second moment can affect a moment of greater length like a season of life as well as future generations. Mike invites the reader on a journey of moments including his own personal story of growing up without a father to becoming the father of five boys. Mike also serves as a guide and offers six principles to help maximize the moments in your life and make your life count for what matters most. Mike has used these principles in his own life as well as the lives of business leaders, entrepreneurs, and amateur and professional athletes that he has been so privileged to work with and coach over the years. In the book, Mike also shares stories that illuminate these concepts and principles. The stories are deeply personal and involve both trials and triumphs in his own life as well as stories of some of his clients who have transformed their lives by putting these principles into practice in order to perform in the moment. The theme of each chapter of the book focuses on a certain type of moment including defining moments, valley moments, mountaintop moments, missing moments, disappearing moments, courageous moments, powerful moments, and purposeful moments. These moments provide a perfect backdrop for the stories to come alive in the context of moments that everyone experiences at some point in their lives. Some of the stories in the book include:

- The perseverance of a child whose father disappears

- The courage of a mother and the faith that sustains her

- The purpose of Ernie Johnson, a 3 time Emmy award winning broadcaster for TNT, and his journey through cancer

- The defining moment of Blake Mycoskie, founder and chief shoe giver of Toms Shoes, who creates a company with a mission of giving a pair of shoes to children in need around the world for every pair of shoes that you buy

- The courage of a professional baseball player who is sustained through moments of doubt about his dad's battle with cancer

- A person who finds comfort in the midst of a valley and is carried back to a mountaintop moment

- A business leader who transforms his life to be more than just an achievement zone

"Moments is the type of book that you never actually finish reading. I keep it on my nightstand and reference it weekly in order to equip myself with the strategies and encouragement to embrace life on a daily basis. Mike presents so many key ideas in a concise, applicable way. Since reading Moments I have applied Mike's wisdom to help me get back in the game, and stopped letting false feelings or perceptions prevent me from performing in the moment for my family, friends, and community. Everyone will find something they can apply to improve their quality of life in this book!" -Tracy Letzerich (Neville's wife)
