Book Description

November 1998
Scrapbooking has become one of the most popular hobbies in the country -- everyone has at least one box of photographs they should be sorting, recording, and preserving. So says author Jo Packham, who has devised a comprehensive and entertaining book that can help anyone turn haphazard collections into stunning presentations of life's best memories.

Throughout the pages of this distinctive volume, readers will find an amazing array of constructive suggestions. Have a bunch of newborn baby photos? Here's how to maximize junior's wrinkly countenance. Kids starting school for the first time? Here are some great ideas for creating a storehouse of memories they'll cherish forever. What about holidays and weddings and pictures from the distant past? Jo Packham provides plenty of projects that will highlight those precious connections in decorative and customized ways.

But there's more to this scrapbooking bible than terrific design ideas. Readers will also learn how to use archival scrapbooking techniques, they'll discover valuable ways to research and record family histories, and they'll explore artistic methods that look great even if they've got minimal creative talent. The book also looks into the past for replicating antique scrapbooks and discusses myriad approaches for devising unique covers and interior pages.

Moments to Remember also reviews some scrapbook alternatives, perfect for those times when that old shoebox contains more than photos. The author gives ideas and examples for making scrapbooks from favorite family recipes, garden information, and pet-related memorabilia. There are even plans for a baby-sitter's scrapbook and journal, a sketch journal, and a little blackbook for current and ex-boyfriends. Believe it or not, scrapbooks can contain just about anything! Moments to Remember contains innovative ideas for creating unique family heirlooms that will be cherished for generations.

This is for those who aren't into cute, cartoony looking scrapbooks. I have never really gotten into scrapbooking before, because the examples I've seen just aren't my style. This book has changed my attitude 180 degrees. If you love beautiful, elegant artwork, this book will inspire you. Anyone familiar with the magazine Somerset Studio will feel right at home. Your memory albums don't have to be childish or tacky...buy this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm so glad I bought this book, November 2, 1998

This review is from: Moments to Remember: The Art of Creating Scrapbook Memories (Hardcover)
Even if I never did any of the beautiful art work described and shown in these pages,I'd still be happy to own this book. The author goes beyond the mundane, childish and in my opinion, artless arrays of photos mounted on various colored papers that I've seen in several other how-to scrapbook books. Each of the scrapbook pages and covers she describes and shows are truly works of art that might even be good enough to display in a museum one day. She describes how to use various media (watercolors, textured and handmade papers, decoupage, etc.) to make a memory book a veritable art collection. There is quite a bit of information on handling antique photos. In fact, many of her backgrounds seem geared towards old photos, although the techniques covered are also suitable for modern ones. The clip art at the end is pretty helpful. Definitely a very inspirational volume and well worth the price!

This idea-packed publication veers away from the all-too-common avant-garde and 'cartoony' style of scrapbooking. The styles presented herein are elegant and classier than most. The pictures are fantastic, and are an inspiration to the scrapbooker.

Contains a number of patterns, directions and templates (which requires enlargement) for the reader's use.
