Did you know that experts recommend 45 minutes of meaningful conversation daily between husband and wife? Apparently that is the amount of time which helps keep spouses together emotionally and spiritually, and which keeps a marriage strong.

2.0 out of 5 stars Best for couples with kids
My husband and I have a great relationship, and we are always looking for encouraging devotionals to build us up, and even convict us in areas we need it. This one is ok, but highly geared toward couples with kids. We have only found a few devotionals that focus on the couple with out children, or make the couple the priority of the book. Did you know that experts recommend 45 minutes of meaningful conversation daily between husband and wife? Apparently that is the amount of time which helps keep spouses together emotionally and spiritually, and which keeps a marriage strong.

My wife and I have read and shared a devotional from this Dennis Rainey book every night for more than two years. We read one just before turning "lights out." Sometimes we're so exhausted from our days that we read it, mutter something quick, pray something even quicker, and fall asleep. Other times we read it, and it sets us up for an hour long conversation, in which we really get insight into our complementary perspectives.

The insights are important but sometimes I forget them, too. I think the real benefit comes from the process that we have adopted, the habit of ending our day together.

And we have enjoyed Dennis and Barbara Rainey's writings. They are transparent in sharing their lives with their readers, and we have been moved many times by their stories.

This one is ok, but highly geared toward couples with kids. We have only found a few devotionals that focus on the couple with out children, or make the couple the priority of the book. This one does not fit into that category. My husband and I thought it would be better titled for "Moments together for couples with children" since so much of the book focus on that are of a couples relationship.

4.0 out of 5 stars An easy way to improve communication and intimacy, June 13, 1998
After 25 years of marriage themselves and helping millions of others keep their marriage vows, Dennis and Barbara Rainey know what it takes to keep a marriage fresh, vibrant, and intimate. Moments Together for Couples is designed to be a "first step" toward better communication. Just 15 minutes a day is enough time to read a scripture passage together, a short essay by the Raineys, and discuss what you read. You'll quickly find that the time went by very quickly, and before you know it, you're spending even more time together.

If you're a woman who works exhaustingly in the home with the kids and the house, you probably long from time to time for meaningful adult conversation. This is a great RX for you.

This best seller (over 400,000 units) will remain fresh for years to come.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you want reality, read this book., December 14, 2002
My husband and I just started this book a week ago. It has already helped us to take an in-depth look at ourselves, our marriage and our relationship with God. If you are ready to face some truth, read this book. If you are looking for a book that tells you only what you WANT to hear, it's not for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Phenomenal Devotional, October 1, 2005

Since we received this as a gift for our anniversary 5-6? years ago, we have given it as part of our wedding gift to LITERALLY EVERY MARRYING COUPLE we've known EVER SINCE. Our oldest of four daughters is 16 and she has begun reading it as a teaching tool for how to be a great mate and what to RIGHTFULLY expect from her mate as a Christian woman. I STILL READ THIS EVERY DAY, and I give it to friends of mine, men and women alike with a note in the front that encourages them to remember that Christ is to be first, our spouses second, and our children third.

5.0 out of 5 stars Realistic Biblical practical help for any marriage., June 7, 2003
By
We've enjoyed our Moments Together for over 3 years now. The lessons keep us talking about issues we would otherwise gloss over. Even after 14 wonderful years of marriage this book challenges us to keep growing closer to God and each other. Life always has something new to throw at us. This book helps tackle those.
The format is a page each day for a year. We don't let it bother us to be reading an April page in May. We just keep at it and enjoy the time strengthening our marriage.

4.0 out of 5 stars Only for parents..., April 13, 2003
My husband and I have been reading this book since the beginning of the year and it has been very helpful to us. We have decided, though, to put it on the shelf until we have children. A good percentage of the devotionals in this book focuses on relationships with your children, child-rearing, etc. We simply cannot relate with these topics yet. Otherwise, it is a great book. I would not recommend this book to couples without children or to those who have an empty nest!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Resource!, June 25, 2006
This book has helped my husband and I make time for a daily time of devotion and prayer. The devotions are short but they always make you think and are good conversation starters. Great book for busy married couples!

4.0 out of 5 stars Bought before we had our daughter....., July 8, 2005
I have seen complaints about how the book only seems geared towards parents....and many of the devotions really are. Before we had our daughter (that took a long time due to infertility) those days were kind of a downer for me....but to get around the topic I tried to view it as an "if I were a parent what would I want to do in this situation".

Now that I am a parent it is a non-issue....and regardless I just enjoy anytime that is mean't to draw myself and my husband closer to the Lord.

4.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Devotional Book, April 22, 2004
My wife and I went through this devotional book during our first year of marriage and we found it really helpful in building our relationship.

While it does have many references to child-raising, that didn't keep us from benefiting because it helped us think about some attitudes that we would like to change or develop before we have children.

I really like Dennis and Barbera's honesty about their own marriage. They don't come across as having solved everything. They still get mad at each other on occasion. That's refreshing.

Some of us who are a bit more conservative may find offense at some references to dancing and movies, but those are minimal and really do not detract from the whole of the book.

I would really suggest this for your first year of marriage.
