Whetting the appetite...,
By Scott Edward Calibraxis (Washington, DC) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Momentum of Singular Clarity (Audio CD)
This CD simply whets the appetite for more from TMO, as it features an example or two of each of their typical sounds: there is some faster, growly stuff, some heavy jungle-drum stuff, and some slower, more atmospheric and sinuous stuff. It is doesn't add up to much except a teaser.
If you haven't heard them before, TMO makes electronic music with elements of industrial, powernoise, and whatnot providing the backbone, but with a touch of eastern and "tribal" influence, lending a more organic and fluid feel to their work than one might expect from the "hard electronics" category. Where TMO really excell is in making full, cd-length sonic epics that you can just put in and let play. The music takes you on an intense trip. This short disc doesn't function on that same level. I unequivocally recommend any of their other cds. This one certainly has appeal for fans, but for new listeners, it's not essential. |
