Not what I expected!,

This review is from: The Mominatrix's Guide to Sex: A No-Surrender Advice Book for Naughty Moms (Paperback)
I am an avid follower of Kristen Chase online (Motherhood Uncensored, Imperfect Parent/Mominatrix, etc), and when I heard this book was coming out, I knew I'd buy it! As much as I still do love Kristen, I have to say I was a little bit disappointed when I read the book. The info within isn't very "fresh", as in, I've heard similar things in other places. In addition, the first section of the book is entirely dedicated to moms who are immediately postpartum...and let me tell you, that was not the time in my life where I was getting really excited to recharge things. I was more trying to balance out motherhood and marriage and returning to work, etc. Really working at getting back a decent sex life, in my opinion, comes later once everything else has balanced out. The book is marketed for "naughty moms" looking for ways to improve their sex lives, and truly it focuses a lot on that immediate postpartum period, so maybe the marketing and title are more what's "off" than the content. I'm not sure. And where does her info come from? I assume (based on what I know of Kristen) that quite a bit could have been from her own personal experiences, but she does not share anything personal in the book. (Obviously that's totally her choice). But readers want to know what has worked for other people in their same situation! If not sharing personal info, some interviews/statements from moms who have "overcome" this slump and some tidbits about how they did so would have been a great addition to this book. With all of that said, there is some great basic information in the book. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who has recently become a new mother. Sex changes after having a baby, no doubt. And there is a ton of classic Kristen humor in the book, which is guaranteed to bring the reader lots of laughs. Hope this review helps!

Mojo Risin',

I follow Kristen Chase's blog "Motherhood Uncensored" and have for years (since her first child was a tiny tot). When Chase's alter ego "The Mominatix" popped up on Imperfect [...], I was intrigued but I think I missed the point. For a while.
I'm the parent of an 18 yr old, a 15 yr old and a 9 yr. old. I've been married 20 years and my husband and I were together three years before we married. I'm a full time middle and high school teacher. All this to say that my mojo...she was missing. Hubby and I needed a, well, a recharge. Our marriage needed to find the spark again. This January, The Mominatrix started the Sexual Resolution; a month long series of challenges meant to jumpstart that spark again. Halfway through the month, I got curious about the Mominatrix book and ordered it from Amazon. It was a quick read, especially since I'm 9 years away from a newborn and much of the book deals with post partum issues. However, issues from pregnancy and parenthood are not just postpartum ones...self-image issues linger. This book, I thought, was applicable to all stages of parenthood. I know that I've found it to be engaging, helpful and very informative (porn specifically for women? Wow). I would, and have, recommended it to any mother, new or not, who wants to reclaim her whole self.

I only wish I'd had this sooner,
This review is from: The Mominatrix's Guide to Sex: A No-Surrender Advice Book for Naughty Moms (Paperback)
I just finished Kristen Chase's book, Mominatrix, and loved it. My only complaint - the book didn't come out 18 months ago when I was pregnant with my first baby!
This book is full of great tips on how to get through pregnancy and the first few years of your babies life, not only as a new mom but as a wife and sexual person. It gives you hope that all is not lost in the bedroom just because you have a baby. I love all the helpful links and Mominatrix tips throughout the books and the appendix in the back that brings it all together. There's even a section for your husband/significant other that lets them know that there is hope and at some point they will get some action again. I am definitely going to give this to my pregnant friends as I think it's such a great resource!

Title Is Not Reality,

This review is from: The Mominatrix's Guide to Sex: A No-Surrender Advice Book for Naughty Moms (Paperback)
This books title "The Mominatrix's Guide to Sex: A No-Surrender Advice Book for Naughty Moms"
Could Easily be "Manage Your Body Through Pregnancy: A No-Surrender Advice Book for Moms" The first 80% of this book is about before, during and after birth and the affects on your body. The previous review talking about physiological birth control is 100% correct. Reading this book is as close to reality on life before and after birth than any other book I have read. What it is not, is a sex book, it is far from it. It is reality on the real life affects on the female body from birth of children. The last 20% of the book does get into "Spicing Up" the sex life, and if you are still reading it can be valuable. If you are more than 1 year removed from birth of your latest child, then I would recommend finding a different book. If you have not yet had a child, or are expecting a child, this is a great book for soon to be moms. It was certainly a reality check at the very least.

Kristen's bringing "sexy" back!,

"Part of merging the woman you were and the mom you are now is letting your sexual being rise up from behind the stretch marks and the hemorrhoids and take back a bit of what's rightfully yours."
Kristen Chase wrote those words. And she would know. She's a mom to three and The Mominatrix. She's written a book called The Mominatrix's Guide to Sex: A No-Surrender Advice Book for Naughty Moms. I read the book over the weekend. And to sum things up? I wish I could have read this book when I was pregnant or in the midst of the first few years of my son's life. I could have really used a guide to getting my "groove" back when I was neck-deep in midnight feedings and couldn't remember my own name due to sleep deprivation. Kristen writes with warmth, humor and honesty over how pregnancy and babies change a relationship, a body, and the way we women feel about ourselves. She takes you through the challenges of pregnancy (and sex) and delivers thoughtful tips on how to beckon the sexy afterwards. Included in the book are some helpful recommendations for practical products moms often need like hip diaper bags and comfortable nursing bras. She's also included suggestions for products that might help you feel like the naughty vixen you once were. (She mentions some sex toys and even porn aimed at women. Really? There's now porn videos aimed at women? And some are actually pretty good? Wow!) If you're a mom living amongst little people who scream alot and can't wipe their own butt, read this book. If you've got a friend who's pregnant or just had a baby, give her this book. Your friend (and her honey) will thank you later!

Fantastic book, I had so much fun reading this! It's about time someone wrote a sex book for moms. Worth buying, giving as a gift and laughing over during a bathtub soak.

I think this book is a funny, fresh look at Sex and Motherhood. Designed to be humorous and informative, I found that it hit the mark. Kristen is witty and parts of this book made me laugh out loud. I appreciated the lighthearted, humorous approach to something that can be very uncomfortable and difficult to discuss.

Expected an educated and well thought out book...,

Instead she talks about the subject of birth inaccurately. Anyone who describes having a c-section as being a "lucky b!tch" shouldn't be allowed to write books for the women. That's just stupid in my opinion. Overall, I was disappointed, so many other books to help a couple spice their life up but gives factual information instead of relying on anecdotal evidence.
