This book is so sweet and full of inspiration. It takes all of those wonderful sayings that we have heard over and over again and gives them a little history and a lot of humor and sentiment. The illustrations are equally wonderful and bring the whole book together. I just love this book and would highly recomend it to a parent.

While the sing-songiness of the "poem" gets redundant quickly, the idioms this author has chosen are classic, and the illustrations really help children visualize the difference between literal and figurative language. Each idiom includes an explanation/derivation, which is immensely useful! I would recommend this book for any teacher that teaches idioms or figurative language-- the students really enjoy it, and it makes for great independent working centers!

This book is wonderful. It is both playful and educational. I am anxious to use it with my students as well as my grandchildren. I also purchased "My Teacher Likes to Say". It is also very good but the idioms are not as common as those illustrated in "My Momma Likes to Say".

A book enjoyable for both children and adults, My Momma Likes to Say includes a fun rhyming verse for youngsters including sayings like "Time flies when you're having fun," "Money doesn't grow on trees," "Hold your horses," and lots more plus a corner aside that explains where the saying comes from and what it means. Also included is a lined page in the back to put sayings your own momma says. Whimsical illustrations round out this one-of-a-kind picture book.
