This is a cute book to show children that their mothers will always love them, even if they make funny faces, get their faces dirty, or come in last in a race. However, the product detail page says ages 9-12 for this title. I would put this book around a 4-5 year old reading level.

I found this book on a display, read through it in the store, and walked out with it that day.

Despite my determination, at our house, sometimes frustration with the kids' disobedience just ends in a scolding. The book nails it right on the head: "Little Chick's mommy had yelled at him! Didn't she love him any more?" and he asks "Mommy, do you still love me, even when I'm bad?" His mother's response is perfect: "Sometimes you make me mad, and sometimes you make me sad, but no matter what you say or do, I will always love you."

I regularly read this book to both of my kids, and I make sure that when I'm reading the scolding part, I use my normal "scolding" tone of voice, so they will really connect the book with real life. And they DO! My 2yo daughter, after a stern talking-to recently, responded "Sometimes I make you sad..." giving me the chance to finish: But no matter what you say or do...

Sometimes we chant the "refrain" at bedtime when we've had a rough day, even if there wasn't a specific incident triggering it, just to cement it in their mind - we often add bits (sometimes you make me happy/make me laugh/make me proud). It's simple enough for even the very little ones to get the message, and cute enough that even the big girls (my stepkids are 13 and 14) will sit with us when we read it. I hope more people will pick up this book and make sure their kids get the message.

The little playful chick wanted to know if his mother loved him. "Mommy, do you love me? Of course she loved him more that anything and kiss, kiss . . . she showed him. The little chick got into all kinds of mischief in order to test his mother's love. She loved him when he made faces. She loved him when he jumped in muddy puddles. She even loved him when he lost a race to the ducklings. He could be so silly at times!

Then one day when he was shouting up a storm that tried his Mommy's patience and she yelled at him. LOUD! He was all upset because she never did anything like that before. Maybe that was it and she really didn't love him anymore. He was so upset he almost cried, but then something she said made him feel better. "Little Chick," she said, "sometimes you make me mad, and sometimes you make me sad, but not matter what you say or do, I will always love you." Mommies always love their little children no matter what, don't they?

This is a lovely tale of the enduring love a mother has for her child despite any and all circumstances. This is a charming tale that will be read time and time in again to all kinds of children, good and bad, just to let them know that their Mommy loves them, even if they can be little imps and mischief makers at times!

I must admit the reason I first purchased this book was my love of chickens. I collect anything with chickens on it. That's why we purchased a chicken farm.I thought this would be a cute book. This book was more than I expected. The ilustrations are beautiful, and the story will teach a child no matter what they do "mommy" willl always love them. Definitely worth buying.

I first found this book at the library. I had to buy my own copy for my kiddos! It is perfect because children usually wonder if we will *still* love them even after they are naughty. This book shows a parent's/mothers love!
That NO MATTER WHAT we will always love them. My daughter loved it!
Plus what I really thought was realistic was at the end the mommy hen yells(raises her voice. And God only knows how many mommy's have experienced that!! ;)
Every child should feel what this book teaches.

This is a story about a chick who wants to know if his mother loves him. She assures him no matter what he does or what happens she will always love him. Several examples are given where the chick thinks her love might be tested but her feelings for him never change. Even when she is angry at her chick, she still loves him. A very reassuring story for children who ask, "Do you still love me?"
