It's Like Making Four New Friends!,
By Ivieisme (Coral Springs, FL USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mommy Tracked (Paperback)
I really loved this book. It was amazing how I found a piece of myself in every character, as well as parts of my friends and sisters. Being a mommy myself in Florida certainly helped me relate, but I think anyone can, mom or not. Her characters are so real it feels like you know them. Any mommy knows that a light, fun, enjoyable read is much easier to pick up between feedings, changings, carpooling, cleaning, laundry, work, husband.....(I could go on & on....)This fit the bill perfectly. I hope to see a sequel!

Funny, heart warming and so very true!,

This review is from: Mommy Tracked (Paperback)
Once again Gaskell delivers a wonderful read! Mommy Tracked is witty and touching all at the same time. New and experienced moms can relate to Juliet, Anna, Chloe and Grace as they struggle with motherhood, careers, husbands and their own identities as women in a world where the job of mothering changes daily. I loved the opening mom's group scene so much that I laughed out loud, and cried later in the novel with Grace. Gaskell is a talented writer--her characters are so real I expect them to leap off the page and come over for a glass of wine.

Great Read!,

Every suburban mother can identify with at least one of the characters in this book. The heroines in this story struggle with real life issues in a humorous way. My favorite part of the book is the competitive nightmare mom with the perfect kids getting what's coming to her! You will laugh out loud!

Excellent "Mommy Lit".... & you're welcome, Whitney!,
By Jami , super-reader girl/mom "jamibc" (Little Rock area) - See all my reviews

Just read on Whitney's blog that all of this book's reviews had disappeared, so here I am, being sweet & starting another great set of reviews for her.
This book would be an excellent read for old-hat moms like me that have a pre-schooler & a 13 year old (yes, I am single-handedly responsible for keeping Miss Clairol in business), for new moms or even that singleton hunting a good preview of her future. The characters were all easy to relate to & the scenarios were lifted straight from all of our own lives pages, right? This was a couldn't-put-downer & warranted a rave review. Am now onto "She, Myself & I" & will begin "Testing Kate" next - thanks, Whitney for these treats & please KEEP GOING!!!!

It's Good, Even For Non-Moms,
By Butterscotch (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mommy Tracked (Paperback)
I've read all of Gaskell's books - chick-lit stories tinged with humor and a good storyline. I've yet to be disappointed, and this book was no exception. Despite being all about mothers, the book was charmingly funny and the characters were definitely interesting. There are 4 main characters - Chloe, Juliet, Anna, and Grace - all dealing with motherhood, marriage, and relationships in a unique way. We have a working mother, a stay-at-home mom, a single mom, and a new mom. Each chapter is devoted to one of the 4 women, and there is quite a bit of transitioning from chapter to chapter. Their stories do intertwine somewhat, but for the most part each woman is living her own life. In fact, they each have enormous secrets that they keep from
one another, so I wouldn't call them best friends or confidants. The writing was good - it took a while for me to get into the flow of the book but the stories pay off in the end. Initially, I felt that the book might bore me as it's solely about women and babies, but the characters are interesting so I'm glad I kept reading. I'd recommend giving this book a chance, especially if you've read her previous books and enjoyed them.

Five Stars Aren't Enough for Whitney Gaskell's Book Mommy Tracked,
By
This review is from: Mommy Tracked (Paperback)
I have a problem when there are more than 3-4 women (all outstanding characters) in one book. I get them mixed up; I get their families mixed up; I get their troubles mixed up and their husbands, too. It can make for a confusing read.
HOWEVER, Whitney Gaskell's Mommy Tracked has 4 delightful, unique and easy-to-identify-with leading ladies who are best friends. Their individual stories move forward in such opposite directions that you will be sure to find one of these 4 ladies who will appeal especially to you, the reader. This book was extremely hard to put down and the first one I've read by this author. I can't wait to lose myself in Ms. Gaskell's other 2 books I bought. Keep on writing, Ms. Gaskell, and we'll keep laughing and crying with your characters. Thanks for such a perfect read.

Finally, a more realistic view for SAHMs!,
By Michelle (San Antonio, TX USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mommy Tracked (Paperback)
I used to attend moms' groups in my neighborhood (a somewhat snooty, upper crust suburbia), but found that I just don't fit in with the moms around here. This novel shows that behind everyone's facade lies a series of issues and that things that appear perfect, aren't always.
The lesson I learned from this novel: The moms in the book have lives to juggle--kids, significant others, work, etc.--as well as their personal issues. It's not easy being a mom, but having good, reliable friends makes the work seem less daunting.

Fantastic Mommy-lit!,
By
This review is from: Mommy Tracked (Paperback)
I absolutely loved this book. I really liked all of the main characters - even though there were aspects of all of them that annoyed me, I still could relate to everyone. This was well-written, and unlike a lot of books with more than one main character, I had absolutely no problem keeping up with the different story lines and characters. Typically mommy-lit either features characters that are ridiculous and have no sense or is just boring. This was a page turner, and in my opinion realistic. As a plus, it was US chick lit which I do not see very often and have rarely seen done well. The only complaint I have is that it was too short! Reading this book prompted me to order all of the author's other books, and that is the highest compliment I can pay an author.

So glad I bought this!,
By Julia "Bookworm27" (Boston, MA) - See all my reviews

I loved this book. The characters were wonderful, everything was very realistic. There are MANY book out there with this subject matter and can get very tedious. But this one is set apart from those others books with real tough situations and the trials these women have to endure. I must check out this author's other books!
