Rising Star,

A well written urban tale that gives us a hardcore look at the life of a child being raised by a junkie, Miasha does a great job of pulling the reader in immediately and never letting go. An easy read that will leave you wanting more, I finished this book in just one day and was comfortable recommending it to my teenage niece. Miasha is definitely a rising star on the literary scene and one to watch in 07!

Another pageturner from Miasha,
This review is from: Mommy's Angel: A Novel (Paperback)
Miasha candidly powerfully writes a tragic story of a tender soul named Angel.
In a effort to provide food on their table and shelter over their heads, 15-year old Angel, steps up to the challenge to handle these responsibilities for herself, her younger sister, her heroin-addicted mother (despite the live-in boyfriend [Marvin] who's abusive); only to be hurled down and swallowed whole into the bowels of the cruelties of streetlife. Her plan started out somewhat manageable, despite the constant setbacks at home. Her "do or die" attitude ultimately crashes despite her courageous attempt to keep her homelife in tact. The sorrow, pain, hurt, disappointment and abandonment of Angel's life is exposed through the talent of Miasha's pen. The story keeps a steady pace and was enjoyable to read.

Living in Survival Mode,

This review is from: Mommy's Angel: A Novel (Paperback)
In Miasha's novel, Mommy's Angel, readers follow the pain and destruction of fifteen year-old Angel. Curtis, her older brother, was the family provider until he was killed. That left Angel, her younger sister, Naja, and baby brother, Kindle to fend for themselves even though they lived with their mother, Carmina. After Curtis died, Carmina succumbed to the grips of addiction, leaving Angel no choice but to find work. Being too young for legal employment, a close family friend hooked her up with a job where it did not matter how old she was. Making enough money to feed her siblings, Angel created plans that included getting a home for them as their current home had become unstable and unbearable. Carmina's boyfriend, Marvin, lived in the home as well and provided Angel with more than enough motivation to put her plans into action.
Angel found herself amid a complex web of lies and debts she was not aware of. Would Angel make good on her plans? Or would the streets make her another statistic? Mommy's Angel is a fast-paced, easy read. The characters were well developed and realistic. I could hear them speaking as I read the words. The novel followed the adage `whatever can happen, will happen.' I thoroughly enjoyed reading Mommy's Angel and recommend it to urban fiction fans. I look forward to reading other novels by Miasha. Told in the voice of a struggling steadfast 15 year-old, Angel, who hails from the thorny streets of Brooklyn, Miasha's Mommy's Angel will pull readers in by their heart strings. The pure desire to know if little Angel makes it out and wises up in time will keep you turning the pages. Written in a very accessible, and believable tone, the words of Mommy's Angel are easy to digest, making it a simple read for any afternoon. Although some pieces of the story seem a little forced or rushed, the twists will all come as surprises. Overall a nice third effort by Miasha.
1. What did you like best about this book? I liked that the story was a real easy to read. It didn't take much analyzing or thinking to get the author's point. 2. What did you dislike about this book? I didn't like that some of the twists thrown in seemed to pop up with out any hinting, but I guess that's why its called a twist right? 3. How can the author improve this book? I would stretch the story out a little more, by adding more depth to the surprises presented in the last 20 or 30 pages.

This book was great! But what threw me for a loop was the ending.Man I did not see that one coming! i had to reread it like 3 or 4 times to make sure that i wasnt trippin'!!! I felt so sorry for Angel and the way she had to handle life after her brother was killed. i wont spoil the book for those who havent read it yet but I must say it is a page turner with LOTS of twists! I just wish it had an epilogue cause I would have like to have known what happened to the baby, her siblings, Antoine, Butter, Marvin and her mom.

A bit short, but still a surprising good read.,
By BooksForMe (Austin, Tx) - See all my reviews

I thought this story was an easy read and a bit short. I believe another 80 pages would have helped to flush out the main character, 15 year Angel. The difficult times she has in the story were drawn out, but there were some loose ends that should have been cleared up or expounded on. Overall, the book kept my interest and it was well worth the cost. Enjoy.

Rock Bottom,

Damn! That's how I felt by the time I finished reading this book. Angel's journey took me back in the day when a friend of mine was in this same situation. I couldn't imagine having to go through any of the situations Angel went through, and it was like she just couldn't seem to get it together. When it rains it pours, and this poor girl was like a Tsunami victim. I hate giving a book away in a review, but I will tell you that you will need some Kleenex for this one. Just like Miasha's other books, this one took you to a place, and drug you into the book making you feel like you were right there when the action was taking place. I hope there's a sequel because Angel's sister Najah, was on the same path of distruction, and it was sad because at the tender age of 15, Angel went through so much. This one was a tear jerker, and it is made to be read in one sitting. Definitely, put this on your to-read list ASAP!

Very Good Book and intense,
This review is from: Mommy's Angel: A Novel (Paperback)
this Book will keep you turning the pages and wondering to figure out what will happen next. Angel has ot survive and hustle to make ends meet. you get a real sense of what is happening on a day to day basis. Miasha the author keeps it real and raw. pulls no punches and you are drawn in through each passage. it's one of those books where you just can't imagine what might happen next and that is the kind of writing and direction of creativity that truly moves me from start to finish. a very Good Book.
