4.0 out of 5 stars Fish-oil softgels are good, but a little hard to swallow
I'm pregnant now and have been taking fish oil supplements for about a month now. I picked these pills because they come from smaller, low-mercury fish. The pills themselves are small, and you only need to take one a day, which is great. They are kind of round (instead of oval), and I have a little bit of trouble swallowing them (harder than my pre-natal vitamin), but...

I decided to take these in addition to my prenatal vitamin, and have been taking them for a couple weeks now. I try to eat before taking them, but have made many trips to the bathroom afterwards. Can't seem to keep them down. I'm 8 months pregnant. Also noticed the "fishy" taste in my mouth, which some people claim they haven't noticed. I will be trying another fish...

The pills themselves are small, and you only need to take one a day, which is great. They are kind of round (instead of oval), and I have a little bit of trouble swallowing them (harder than my pre-natal vitamin), but they are not too bad. I just ordered another supply.

4.0 out of 5 stars Work well for me..., October 18, 2007

I bought these to take along with my daily prenatal vitamin because I read in a magazine that fish oil taken during pregnancy aids in the baby's brain and eye development. I also decided to try this supplement because it had DHA in it as well. The pills are easy to swallow and they don't upset my stomach at all (like some vitamins can during pregnancy) and I never get a "fishy" aftertaste or repetition in my mouth from them (as they advertise) like some fish oil supplements can do to you. I would definitely recommend giving them a try.

I can't say that I've extensively researched omega-3s and fish oils, but I have tried a few. I will organize my review into pros & cons
PROS
1. Natural source. I strongly prefer natural source supplements Mommy's Bliss is just that.
2. Only a slight fishy taste (as opposed to a strong fishy taste). I have yet to try a fish oil without a fishy taste (especially after I burp), but with Mommy Bliss the fishy taste lasts a much shorter period of time.
3. Small softgel (about the size of a small jellybean). This doesn't matter too much to me personally, but I know some people have difficulty with large softgels. These are small and easy to swallow.
4. Serving size is only one per day. Other brands I've tried require taking them 2-3x daily. I can never remember after the first dose when I take my prenatal multivitamin and calcium so it's great to only need to remember one dose.
CONS
1. Fishy taste as discussed before. While it is significantly reduced as compared to other brands, it's still there.
2. It's a little pricey in my opinion, but worth it.

UPDATE 7/12/11
I have used up my supply of Mommy's Bliss Dha Mommy's Bliss Omega-3 DHA Plus Fish Oil, 60-Count Softgels and logged on to my amazon account to order some more, but decided to check out what's available since it's been a while since I've compared products and prices. I continue to really enjoy the Mommy's Bliss product, however I ordered another product instead. For one dollar more per month I am going with Nordic Naturals DHA (the larger container is cheaper than the smaller one at this time). Aside from price (really what's one buck anyways!?), the Nordic Naturals (NN) beats Mommy's Bliss (MB) in almost every other category. I will include the content of each supplemented item b/c it is not listed on the ingredient list for Mommy's Bliss and shoppers wouldn't know how to compare the two otherwise!

serving size: Nordic Naturals 2 softgels; Mommy's Bliss 1 softgel
DHA: Nordic Naturals 450 mg; Mommy's Bliss 250 mg
EPA: Nordic Naturals 90 mg; Mommy's Bliss 100 mg
Omega-3 fatty acids: 580 mg; Mommy's Bliss 387 mg

The only real downside I see of the Nordic Naturals is that a serving size is two softgels (of which I will take one in the am and one at supper to spread out the supplement across the day). I really liked only having to take one softgel as with Mommy's Bliss, but I need to start taking a calcium later in the day. I guess now I'll have two things to remember hopefully making them more memorable.

I hope this helps someone who is trying to decide what's the best supplement!

I was looking for an affordable DHA supplement with no fishy aftertaste. I prefer the plant-based DHA supplements because they're never fishy, but I decided to give this one a shot based on its reviews.

Unfortunately, this product did not deliver. I'm sure they're great for my developing baby, but they do cause nasty fish burps. If I take one in the middle of a meal--eat a little, then take the capsule, then eat some more--this effect is lessened and sometimes doesn't even occur. But if I take them before or after, I get the fish burps. The taste is really awful, like stale salmon.

I'll finish this bottle now that I've learned how to reduce the yucky effect, but I won't buy them again. I'll go back to Enfamil Expecta Lipil, Softgels, 30 softgels (Pack of 2), which are plant based and don't give me nasty burps no matter how I take them.

The pills are easy to swallow and have no taste. I've been taking them for a couple of days now and there is a nearly constant fishy smell in my mouth. I like that these are natural, but I will be trying another DHA supplement when this bottle runs out.

I'm happy with this product. I used Expecta Lipil with my last pregnancy and my daughter is super, super smart and ahead of the game, so I know taking a supplement didn't hurt anything! The reason I chose Mommy's Bliss this time is because it is actual fish oil, not a more artificial source of DHA. The soft gels are a little tougher to swallow and the first time I opened the bottle, I could smell fish. Extra yucky to smell when you are pregnant. But I haven't caught a whiff of a fish smell since the initial package opening and I am SUPER sensitive to that in general. I hate fish. But otherwise, I've been happy with product. :) Would have been a 5 if it was easier for me to swallow and I hadn't smelt the fishy smell at all. ;)

Great product! These pills contain the omega 3 that you and baby need, without worrying about the dangerous levels of mercury found in large fish. Price is great too (this is the cheapest site I have found them on--plus order 2 bottles and the purchase will include free shipping).

5.0 out of 5 stars I Love It, April 26, 2008

I had to purchase expecta lipil because this went out of stock and was really upset, it gave my stomach a horrid ache.

I took these through my pregnancy and after. My daughter came out extremely alert. I mean she cried for about 30 seconds, than was looking around, and looking at me. She knew who I was, and was observing her surroundings. In the hospital after my C-Section she didn't cry. She was a perfectly happy baby. To this day she is still alert, and paving those nuero pathways so quickly. I am breastfeeding and still taking these supplements. My daughter is 3 months, and the most alert, and intelligent baby I've ever met. I think these vitamins really help your child thrive (with a good diet and a prenatal vitamin of course)

The company that sells this product changes its prices from day to day, so watch the prices. I saw it one day and placed an order the next and ended up paying more than I thought I would. Contacted the company, but they didn't do anything. It was really my fault for not double checking the price before ordering, but what's with the price changes?
