PreSchool-K-An affectionate tribute to every mother whose gentle touch has helped to mold her child through teaching, encouragement, and love. A mother's hands can pour milk without spilling, untangle shoelace knots, braid hair, knead dough, teach printing, and point out the constellations, among other amazing abilities. Three mothers and their youngsters of three different races are pictured using their hands in various ways, separately and together. The children praise their moms and what they can accomplish, and show what they can do with their own hands. Double-spread and single-page watercolor illustrations in soft colors reveal warm relationships and three very confident children learning to become self-sufficient. A tender tale of praise for mothers and their offspring.

Ages 3-5. A tender and affectionate series of tete-a-tetes between three moms and their children. "I love my mommy's hands," says an Asian girl, who clings to her mother's hand in the rain. A little redhead loves to count his mom's freckles when his hands pull her close. An African American boy watches his mom's hands pour milk and never spill a drop. The activities are those of daily life: making frost pictures on the windows in winter, planting radishes in the spring, gazing at the constellations on a summer night. The pictures are done in sweet pastel colors without being cloying.
