I was impressed by the easy setup and the plastic seemed very sturdy right out of the box. My son did seem more interested in this seat than the potty chair or the other seats that fit right over the toilet. I also really like the way that it could be easily moved right out of the way when not needed.

However, after only a few months of my 32 lb toddler using it one time a night, one of the side pieces that connects the blue step to the sides snapped right off while he was on it. Luckily, he was able to catch himself and not fall.

I have emailed the company and am waiting for a response. I do agree with the others that this is a great idea that needs perfecting!

**update** I received a speedy email reply asking for my address and assuring me that this isn't a common problem. I recieved a brand new unit in the mail within days! They did ask for a photo of the broken area so they could "research" the issue. New one has been used off and on for about a month with no problems yet.

This seat is great! You never have to clean out the pot of the traditional potties for kids (yuck!), it assembled easily, is sturdy for our 36 lb. 3 year old, and it's super easy for her to use! I'm shocked by the poor reviews on this - it's been so amazing for us that we've bought three!

We have a girl, so perhaps it's not as durable for boys who tend to be rougher with things? I don't know, but I've not found it to be of poor quality at all. Then again, it's under $30 so you can't expect it to last forever - we've had ours about 9 months, with the past 6 months seeing "full-time" potty usage and have had no problems at all.

Our daughter loves it because she can get up onto the toilet herself using the step and the two handles to hold onto. We recently traveled and had to use a regular potty seat that just sets on top of the adult toilet seat and we had to lift her up onto it and off each time, so the advantage of the step-stool is huge for us. She's also able to put it on the toilet herself if someone has removed it. This seat gives her a lot of autonomy and helps her to feel more like a "big girl" than a baby.

Also, we have Toto toilets - all with elongated bowls/seats and it fits just fine for us, so I don't know about the previous comments of problems with elongated seats.

I decided to give this a quick update after writing my original post because I kept wondering how on earth this potty seat would chip a toilet as per the Top Post. The Top post on here gave this a 2 star review based on the fact that they were using it wrong. They say "It simply does not fit elongated toilet seats (I tried it on three different toilets with elongated seats)so it is always somewhat unstable, and this leads to chipping and damaging the toilet seat". This is NOT meant to be sat on the toilet seat, you lift up the toilet lid & seat and place it directly on the toilet(look at the picture) So I am also sure that is why they claim it was so unstable. Also, I have realized the reason the steps don't lock down is so it can easily adjust to different sizes/heights of toilets. I even tried to use this seat on our toilet side ways and it still works just fine so I think unless you have a really tall or weird toilet that this would work just fine...if you use it the correct way that is. I would just hate for people to pass up buying this based on the negative review(like I almost did) when they are giving a negative review based on using it wrong because I really believe this potty seat is the key to potty training my daughters in an easy and stress free manner.

Original Post
My twin daughters just turned 2 on Oct 27. We have potty chairs and although they used to enjoy sitting on them I can normally not get them to sit on them for more than 10 seconds at a time. And although they have previously sat on the big potty with me holding them so they dont fall in, both my daughters had become Terrified to sit on the big potty.

I got this potty seat and put it together in a few minutes. I brought it in the bathroom to let my son try it, but it didn't seem to sit on the seat well, and the step wasn't feeling secure. I looked at the box and realized that this is meant to sit on the toilet BOWL not the SEAT. I kind of wasn't crazy about that but when I tried it, it fit pretty well.

I let my son climb up when I had it secure. I can't say it was wobbly, but I wouldn't say it was rock solid either. I like the fact that it has handles as my son was holding onto the toilet before. It seems pretty comfortable to him. We had no trouble with pee coming out the front, but we didn't have in issue with him like with my first son, who needed the deflector. The seat does its job, I just wasn't impressed.

Pros: Step up
Fairly secure
Comfortable

Cons: No deflector (an issue for some boys)
Not super-sturdy
Seat covering doesn't seem like it will last long

The last issue we had, not with the product but with our own lack of forethought was this: When my son pulls his pants down to go to the bathroom, he cannot climb the step. He needs to take them off. (The step does not feel wide enough or sturdy enough for him to step up. turn around, then pull down.) So, instead of making it easier by giving him more independence, I either still have to pick him up to the seat or help him redress himself when he is done.

I feel that this is a decent product, giving the child a hand-hold and foot rest so that they feel comfortable when going to the bathroom. As a tool for independence, that would depend entirely on the child. For us, it seems a step stool and a simple seat would be better as the step stool can then be used for hand-washing.
