5.0 out of 5 stars The only way to go
If you need child safety catches, Buy only these. I have tried 8 different brands and styles, from the spring loaded expensive ones to the the cheap easy use ones. All are terrible. This product Is super strong and secure I have since replaced every safety catch in my house with this brand and I have told all my friends with children to buy only these as well. All of them...

3.0 out of 5 stars great concept, mediocre design & quality
Once installed, these locks work really well. They only allow doors and drawers to open a couple inches (not the 1" that's claimed), and do an impressive job of keeping them open to prevent mashed fingers. The disable feature is handy in the kitchen when you need to get in & out of cabinets frequently (i.e. cooking, putting dishes away, etc.), and it will be good for...

5.0 out of 5 stars Stop here, do not buy any other cabinet drawer and door locks BUY THESE ONLY, September 22, 2009

Wow.... I have a huge box full of baby proofing items. I have a lot of drawer locks, my son can get past the lock on the drawer. This one is brilliant. Not only do you have the ability to keep them out, you can take the lock part out of it, if you are in the kitchen working, it is removable. It is like Christmas all over again, finding good items are hard, even the big name brands produce cheap items. Do not look past this item, it is a must have when you are baby proofing drawers. I have not used it on a door, since they don't need them. BUY IT

These work great. I like that when the door is pulled out, they lock into place so there is no concern with my son slamming his fingers in the door or drawer.

3.0 out of 5 stars great concept, mediocre design & quality, July 20, 2010

Once installed, these locks work really well. They only allow doors and drawers to open a couple inches (not the 1" that's claimed), and do an impressive job of keeping them open to prevent mashed fingers. The disable feature is handy in the kitchen when you need to get in & out of cabinets frequently (i.e. cooking, putting dishes away, etc.), and it will be good for the gap between kid 1 and kid 2 when cabinet locks are not required. Even with the negatives below, I think they are still pretty good locks even though I haven't used any others.

Now for the bad news. First, the included screws are worthless. If you get even moderate resistance when screwing them in, the heads twist off leaving a sharp piece of metal that you have to remove with pliers. I had to get different screws from the hardware store to install the locks after 6 screws broke off...on two locks. Yes, I even had pilot holes.

Second, I think I got a Beta version of the product instead of the final design that's pictured on Amazon and on the product's own packaging. It's difficult to explain without a picture, but it is obviously not "right". The design I got makes the small catching bracket rub against the stem of the long piece when the door is closed, and the applied pressure keeps the doors and drawers open slightly. You can press the door/drawer closed, but it opens again. This doesn't affect the product's performance, it just looks bad when everything is open a half inch.

Finally, don't waste your time with the installation templates. They are only good for the small catching bracket, and using the bracket as its own template works just as well. You still have to eyeball & "feelball" installing the larger bracket for the long piece to get it lined up just right, as there isn't a template for it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great, but a pain to install, June 11, 2009

My husband installed these and he was irritated by how long it took. Other than that, though, I'm happy with the way they work. My ten-month-old can pull the drawers out, and then yank and push on them without getting her fingers pinched. As far as this type of lock goes, I'm pretty happy with them!

4.0 out of 5 stars I love them, January 8, 2010

I got these locks when my daughter was about a year old. She was able to open three of the other locks I tried, but not these!! They work great at keeping her out, she tried almost every day to figure them out with no luck yet and she is almost two now :-)

There are a cpl things that I don't like about these locks... My husband still doesn't understand how they work!!! He is constantly pulling them off.. and every time my daughter tries to break into the cabinets they lock in an open position (only about an inch open but its still a pain to go back and shut them).

The fact that they lock in an open position is a good but annoying feature :-) it stops her from slamming her fingers when she is upset that she can not get into the cabinet!!

I think these work great. I love the fact that they lock once my son tries to open them. (they lock an inch or so open). He can't get his arm to mess with anything, and he can't slam it shut, and he can't open it any further. Perfect! These are the first ones I bought for that reason, and I didn't need to buy anything else. I have them on my cabinets in the living room. I love them. I am so happy we got some to keep him out of the cabinets. They were tough to install, but I'd do it again and again. It would have been easier if my husband or someone else was helping.

1.0 out of 5 stars Cabinets open too wide!, January 31, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Safe-Lok (Baby Product)
I know the product description says that cabinets and drawers will only open 1 inch wide, but after installing one of these locks on a kitchen cabinet last night, I can assure you than the gap is far wider than 1 inch. The opening, which was at least 2 inches wide, could easily allow a baby's hand to go into the cabinet and access what's inside. I don't know if they changed the design of these locks recently, but the set I received just a week ago certainly don't meet the 1 inch criterion.

So I'm not gunna tell you they're easy to install because it depends on the drawer and cabinet you're installing them in.

Also depends on the tools you already have. I have a power drill so I can pre drill a smaller hole and quickly screw these in pretty easily without splitting my cabinets.

What I will tell you is that these are the best cabinet locks I've found so far. Not because of their super high quality, because honestly their just cheap plastic. Strong enough to hold up but that's about it.

What makes them so great is the double directional lock.

My daughter loves to open AND close things. Seriously, I'm not nearly as worried about her getting into the cabinets as I am of her constantly slamming her fingers in stuff, which she has done several times now.

On any of the cabinets with these locks she, pulls them open and then immediately goes to slam them closed, 80% of the time with her tiny fingers inside the door. The cabinet locks stop the door from closing.

So, yeah you have to go around the kitchen and bathroom re-closing all the cabinets once in awhile but honestly it's worth it.

I highly recommend these, they're cheap and they work.

It took me a while to install it but it does its job of keeping our kid out of the cabinets. Buyer beware that it is not easy to install. Also, if your cabinet is too old and brittle, the wood on the cabinet door will split while screwing the nail. Also, the device is larger than expected.
