Modern Moms Wear All Kinds Of Shoes. The lives of working mothers have caused certain metaphors, not to mention cliches work overtime: we wear a variety of hats; we juggle to keep numerous balls in the air; we wage battles at home and at work you can surely supply others. That's what Kristie Finnan has done in her new book, Mommy s High Heel Shoes. Spinning off the familiar image of young children clopping clumsily around in their mothers shoes, Finnan has fashioned a way to explore the various shoes mothers wear as they walk the various paths of their lives. Thus, after her mother leaves for work wearing high heels, a little girl rather cloyingly nicknamed Cakes (because she likes cupcakes) explores her mother's closet......In addition, this one features charming illustrations by Pat Achilles's. Though for some unexplained reason a tiny ladybug hides on each page, this adds a sweet interactive component to the text. See mommytracked.com for full and complete review by Jo Keroes. Mommy Track'd- the working mother's guide to managed chaos. --Mommy Tracked

This book was so much fun to read. The illustrations are beautiful and I loved how the author added a glimpse of mystery to each page by having you find a ladybug, heart, and cupcake. It was fun to read through the story then go back and find the hidden treasures in each illustration. This is a loved book by my family and I am sure your family will love to read it as well Heather B, for full review see Thedomesticdiva.org --The Domestic Diva --The Domestic Diva

My teenage daughter was recently baby sitting for two young children in town. In addition to taking crafts and other fun things to do with the kids while she was there, she brought a copy of Mommy's High Heel Shoes with her as well. On her return I asked what she did for the five hours while baby sitting. The kids enjoyed the crafts, but most of all (and not surprisingly), they loved the book! My daughter proceeded to tell me that after reading the story the children went into their Mom's closet, took out several pairs of shoes, and while trying them on for size spent a good deal of time "figuring out" what each pair was for and how their Mom can find so much time to wear them all. I'm not certain if the shoes made it back to the closet, but I do know those kids have been requesting that my daughter come back to babysit soon.

As someone whose had to read numerous mediocre children's books my kids have picked based on the cover art or even a funny word in the title, I can't tell you what a nice change of pace it was to read something to my children that was cute, funny, well-written and wasn't a chore to get through. The author does a wonderful job of relating to children and their questions around having a working mom - since my wife works, it's a story that the kids could easily relate to and enjoy. The illustrations were excellent, especially the eye-catching cover. Any kids book that doesn't drive me crazy midway through it is a treat these days - this one's among the best. Highly recommended.

My daughter is not a fashionista, nor does she have to be to enjoy Finnans new book.

She loves it when I read the book out loud to her because I use my "woman's" voice for the mom parts. Something every dad should do. My kids expect me to be silly when reading which creates a bond with them that I love and this book really allows that to happen.

As for the book, One day my daughter and her friend, after reading Mommy's High Heel Shoes, went into every closet in the house and made up stories about each pair of shoes and when finished they wanted cupcakes. To me this is proof that a book is good because it engaged her and her friend after reading it to continue playing from what they learned in the story.

The book moves at a fast pace and the illustrations have a great vintage feel while sill being contemporary. The message is clear that parents (especially moms) need to work but most of all their favorite job is taking care of their kids. It's a great book with a great message that anyone will like.

Mommy's High Heal Shoes is a wonderful book to share with your children, especially if you're a mom who heads out the door every morning with your own high heal shoes on! I own the book, but I also downloaded the digital version from MobiStories. This version is absolutely adorable. The sound effects and music add to the experience to make it even more engaging. I recommend this book to anyone who wants a really nice book to read with their children.

This book is awesome. It's explanation of a working mom allows kids' minds to use their imagination as the character, "cakes" does. My 3 kids love reading through it and finding the ladybugs! It helps explain the many jobs parents have by using shoes as its metaphor. Very sweet, fabulous illustrations!
There are not enough books out there to help a working Mom or Dad! Thanks and Write more!

This book is wonderful. As a working mother of two, I understand all too well the many shoes that mommy wears! This book is adorable and heartwarming. It makes a great addition to any home or school library to be read over and over again!

We got his book to read to our daughter, and she felt great about her own 'schedule' after reading it. Very engaging and pleasant book with a great lesson.

I've had the pleasure of adding this book to our family library, and it's become an instant favorite in our home! Using shoes as a metaphor for the "many roles of a Mommy", Ms. Finnan does a fantastic job of validating a working mother's relationship with her children, meanwhile exploring a child's imagination with a colorful cleverness that is equally matched by the illustrator, Ms. Achilles. The storyline is clever, and the illustrations are beautiful and appealing to both children and adults--in fact, this is the first storybook my toddler has ever sat through, and the first "hidden pictures" book my 5 year-old has taken an interest in. "Mommy's High Heel Shoes" will be finding its way under my friends' Christmas trees this year!
