From the Author

I hope you enjoy reading "Momnesia!" In my women's fiction, my goal as an author is to provide a sense of camaraderie, feeling understood, or at the very least, entertainment and an escape for the time while you're reading... and hopefully long after.

While "Momnesia" does read well as a stand-alone book, it has become part of my Find Yourself Series. Originally, its successor was going to be titled Gramnesia. However, after discovering (through beta readers) that the title made people think it would only be for older women, it was retitled "Unexpecting." If you decide to use your valuable free time to read it, I hope you'll enjoy it too!

As a woman, authoring these books has been fun, eye-opening, and has brought me inspiration from many women, moms, and readers around the globe who also struggle with the "symptoms of Momnesia." I hope you'll feel the same!

How was your life before you met Mr. Right, (or Mr. Wrong)? Were you a different person before you "settled down" and had a couple kids? Do you have time for friends, fun, and fantasy anymore? Or is your time taken up by rocking babies, packing lunches, grocery shopping, laundry day, meal planning, yo-yo dieting, changing diapers, and making sure everyone else is satisfied? When do you have time for you?...

These are the questions that one mom wants answered. She's hot, smart, and knows how to get the job done, but why does she feel so hollow? Her business is booming, her two kids are great, her husband is... nice, but she finds herself sitting in a parking lot wondering how she got there, whether she should get divorced, and if she even knows who she is anymore. She has a serious case of "Momnesia (mahm-nee-zhuh) - noun- Loss of the memory of who you used to be. Caused by pregnancy, play dates, and trying to keep the house cleaner than the Joneses." Can this mom take herself off autopilot and find herself, her laughter, and her passion, to become the person she wants to be?

This book left me feeling anything but "cat-faced"! I am not a wife or a mother, but I do have experience with feeling overwhelmed by work, family, and "me time"; I can honestly say that it is easy to lose sight of yourself and your goals when you have other things on-your-plate. After reading the first few pages of Momnesia, I knew that I was going to love it! Lori Verni-Fogarsi's writing style is funny, feisty, freeing, and full of life! I found her characters well-developed and real enough to identify and sympathize with, especially the main character and the friends she met along the way.

Momnesia is a great read for women of all ages... not just women who have lost their personal identity due to the total eclipse of motherhood. It's a wonderful lesson for young women to learn BEFORE they introduce marriage and children into their lives, and for older women whose children may already be off on their own and now need to rediscover themselves. I could really identify with suburban life and the Dr. Jekyl/Mr. Hyde personality of some of the lead character's neighbors. Reading this book also helped me realize that I was trapped in a Momnesia cycle of my own and needed to make a few changes to reclaim my identity and take ownership of what I feel is important in my life and my relationships. What a refreshing look at marriage, parenting, and the obligation women have to stay true to themselves in the process!

I picked this book up at the library because it has a great title and cute cover art. While I love the idea of this book, the writing is a different story altogether. It's wordy and trite: "which threw Sam into a loud and uproarious fit of laughter, while Jo just sort of looked down at her feet and blushed." Sort of looked down? What does that mean exactly? The author also has issues that would likely have been fixed in a later draft of the book. "I had just returned from the ladies' room... When I opened the door (to the ladies room).." How could she have just returned from the ladies' room and then immediately opened the door to it? I have to say I only read the first 4 chapters but it's my experience that the writing style in a book does not change and I do not have the patience to wade through it. I suggest the author take some writing classes and learn how to "show" not "tell."

I received this book (Kindle version) from the author in return for an unbiased review.

I enjoyed most parts of the book. I had to skip the through "Little Guy 1 and 2", they were getting annoying. I love how I could relate to different elements in the book. Though I am truly lucky not to have a marriage like that, I know many who have and I feel like I got a little more insight into how they feel. It also made me thankful for what I do have.

Momnesia is a perfect word. Being a mom is truly a blessing but we forget who we are while trying to foster our children into being independent people who are grounded and amazing all at once. I took away from this book an understanding that remembering me and what I love and continuing those interests makes me a better mom and wife. I don't want my daughter thinking Momnesia is okay and something to strive for.

I am in another book club and am going to recommend this book to them. I was not able to attend the Momnesia party that was attached to this book club's reading but would love to attend or host one in the future.

If you are currently raising - or have ever raised - little humans, Momnesia is for you. I suspect most women will have the same feeling I had while reading this funny, realistic novel: the sense that somebody really "gets" the tightrope act that is modern motherhood. In this case, that someone is author Lori Verni-Fogarsi, whose perceptiveness and wit had me laughing out loud throughout this story about marriage, divorce, suburbia, and dating-while-mom. Two words: cat face (read it and you'll understand). Oh, and single moms everywhere will love her nicknames for various online dating sites. Spot on! I didn't care for the exchanges between Little Guys 1 and 2, but they're few and far between, so don't miss out on this otherwise fun and sexy read just because of them. Is there life after childbirth? In Momnesia, the answer is "Hell, yes!" and it's a heck of a ride.
