Good but not as good as her other baking book.,

I own the author's "Mom's Big Book of Baking" and use it all the time, so I bought this book from Amazon sight unseen. While I've used it alot, I don't know if I really need both of her books as many of the recipes appear in both books in slightly altered form. That being said, I have used the book several times and my kids like cooking from it because the pictures are so appealing. It's also spiral bound, so it's easy to keep open on the counter when you are cooking with 2 kids at your heels.

The 200-some cookie recipes in this title differ from competing cookie cookbooks: they've all been 'kid tested', decorations are done with kids in mind, and MOM'S BIG BOOK OF COOKIES: 200 FAMILY FAVORITES YOU'LL LOVE MAKING AND YOUR KIDS WILL LOVE EATING includes special tips on baking for kids. With kid-friendly recipes and plenty of baker's tips, it's not to be missed!

I love to bake, but sometimes faall into a rut of making the same things over and over. This huge collection of cooking inspires me to try new things that are still kid-friendly (esp. important for my picky kid!) Chattman sprinkles her recipes with charming antedotes about her childhood and family, it's like walking into a warn kitchen that smells of freshly baked cookies and chatting with a friend.

A Great Variety,

Both my roommate and I are avid bakers, and we are always looking for new cookie recipes. I saw this book and after flipping through it decided I needed to have it.
Lauren Chattman includes recipes for classics such as chocolate chip cookies, oatmeal cookies, and slice-and-bake sugar cookies. Also included are some more interesting ideas, such as black forest chocolate chip cookies, cornmeal cranberry squares, after-dinner microwave brownies, and m&m biscotti. The black & white cookies were a big hit with my friends, and they were surprisingly easy to make. Tonight I'm making sour cream chocolate chip cookies, and I am so excited to taste them! I really recommend this book to anyone who has any interest in baking--no skill-level necessary!

I will be the first to admit that I hate baking cookies. Don't get me wrong ~~ I love to cook and bake ~~ I just don't like baking cookies. They are time-consuming, they are messy and I just don't like doing it. However, with a hubby and two little boys, cookies are a must-have staple in our kitchen. I found this book originally at the library and when I flipped through it, I realized that I couldn't just returned it after two weeks. I had to have my own copy.
This is such a neat little find for me. It has tips in here on how to have your kids help you with baking cookies, like for example, "Kids enjoy rolling together the two types of dough in this recipe, so when you're finished mixing, let them take over (page 33, Chocolate Chip Marble Cookies). There is a section on jar-gifts for teachers, friends (like Sand-art Brownies). There is a section on age-tested favorites. There's a section on different types of holiday cookies (like Abraham Lincoln Stovepipe Hats or Presidents' Day Cherry-almond thumbprints). By thumbing through the pages, you'll feel the inspirations coming on. Another example would be on page 133 ~~ where it says, a good excuse to make Reese's Pieces Autumn Oatmeal Cookies: Make these for a special home screening of the movie, "E.T." to satisfy the craving that will surely arise when the candy makes its famous cameo appearance. With ideas, inspiration and tips like this ~~ now even I am inspired to get the rolling pin out. 11-9-07

Awesome!,

This is a great cookie baking book - firstly, its very practical, the spiral bound feature makes it easy to follow the recipes whilst preserving the book's appearance [wish all cookbooks were that way]. The recipes are fun, and easy to make with lots of practical tips like melting the butter and allowing to cool to room temperature before creaming it with the sugar. All in all, a cookie baker's delight and practical too!

I got this for Christmas from a knowing mom who said that now that my children are school age I will be making more cookies. This book is well organized, has a good broad spectrum of recipes, and is easy to use. The color photos make your mouth water. So far every thing I've tried from this book has turned out GREAT!

You don't have to be a mom to love this book!,

I've owned this book for a couple of years now and absolutely love it. I use it to bake for work potlucks, my niece and nephews, and my husband and me. The recipes are easy to follow and don't require strange, hard-to-find ingredients.
My niece and nephews especially love the Best Basic Brownies and the Obsessive Mom's Chocolate Chip Cookies. I made the latter for a Christmas celebration and they gobbled up the whole plate! This book is full of recipes that are kid-friendly, but also pleasing to adults. I highly recommend it.

I love this cookbook. It has an amazing variety and I can always find a cookie recipe for what I'm craving or what I have in the cupboards at the time (there is even a section of cookies for when you want cookies but you don't have the basics). It is very well organized into sections with good tips and tricks within the recipe. The recipes are easy to follow and all the cookies I've tried have turned out great.
