5.0 out of 5 stars This Book Should be Mandatory for All New Parents!
I cannot tell you the positive impact this book has had on raising our son. My friends and family can't believe how well my son has slept using the schedule in this book. Before reading this book, my son did not sleep at night at ALL! After THREE DAYS he began sleeping 4-5 hours and he has been sleeping through the entire night since he was 8 weeks old. This book...

3.0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good
I saw these two women speak and they were wonderful. However, I just thought the book was o.k.. Some useful tips but if you ever get a chance to see them in person take it.

This book should be the definitive guide on how to get your baby to sleep through the night.

Don't believe the negative review of this book stating that you have to let your baby cry it out. That is not what this book is about! It tells you in great detail how to put your baby on a schedule that will make him sleep better and be happier! Babies thrive on a routine and look to us as parents to provide one.

5.0 out of 5 stars The BEST, most CONCISE baby book I've ever read!!, May 20, 2007

This review is from: The Moms on Call Guide to Basic Baby Care: The First 6 Months (Paperback)
So many baby care books out there are data overkill with no useful information... You read and read to find answers to simple, practical questions you need NOW to help your baby sleep, know how much to feed, etc. While other books offer roundabout suggestions, this book is an amazing bullet-point list of how to care for your newborn infant!! I know several moms who have used their swaddling technique and blanket whose babies were sleeping through the night before 6 weeks. Thank you, thank you for a wonderful, easy-to-read guide. I highly recommend!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Moms on Call Guide to Basic Baby Care: The First 6 Months, May 15, 2007
This review is from: The Moms on Call Guide to Basic Baby Care: The First 6 Months (Paperback)
I want to thank you so much for writing this book. Since reading and implementing the suggestions my house is a different
place. I went from a child who screamed all the time to a very happy 2 month old. I now have time throughout the day to interact with my two and half year old and time to play with the baby. It is amazing how well your methods to get a child asleep works. I cannot believe the difference. I have been telling all of my friends about the book.
This is great book for new moms and second time moms.

5.0 out of 5 stars so far so good!, May 15, 2007
This review is from: The Moms on Call Guide to Basic Baby Care: The First 6 Months (Paperback)
We had Laura come to the house and she was great! If you follow her strategy your child will be sleeping through the night sooner rather than later. It might be hard to listen to your child cry for a few minutes but her techniques are much better than anything else we tried. I implore you to follow the book from the time your child is an infant. We didn't find out about Moms on Call until our oldest was 9 months old. What a difference it makes starting early!

5.0 out of 5 stars The best book on infant care!, May 14, 2007

I can not say enough positive things about The Moms on Call. Thanks to their technique, my son has slept through the night since he was 7 weeks old and at 2 1/2 remains a consistently good sleeper. The book is simple, clearly laid out and easy to follow. It helps to take much of the fear out of first time parenting. I am thrilled that moms across the country now have access to this incredible resource.

If you buy one how-to baby book, this should be it! This book lays out a fail-proof routine for getting your baby to sleep through the night. Our son is 18 months old now and has slept at least twelve hours through the night EVERY NIGHT since eight weeks. The Moms on Call have a realistic, practical approach to everything from clipping fingernails to a "typical" schedule for your newborn to reassuring you that it is normal for your baby to cry - and even healthy. This book (and Jennifer and Laura) are a true lifesaver for any mom - and especially a first-time, type A mom!

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding, Practical Advice, February 20, 2009
This review is from: The Moms on Call Guide to Basic Baby Care: The First 6 Months (Paperback)
I am a physician and mother of two. I used this book to the point that it's frayed at the edges. I have also been to Toddler Seminars by the authors. They are extremely practical, nurturing, smart mothers and nurses who make it EASY to figure out solutions to daily baby care. Instead of an 800 page book filled with nonsense, this is an easy to read manual that even after two kids, and a medical degree of my own, I continuously reference. I always use the 'daily schedule' as a guide to what I should be doing. My kids are happy and healthy since they get plenty of sleep, and so do I. These authors are a god-send. For any new parent this small but jam-packed book of advice is a MUST. I also have their swaddle blanket. I use their advice constantly.

5.0 out of 5 stars I wish I had used it for the first three!, December 15, 2008
This review is from: The Moms on Call Guide to Basic Baby Care: The First 6 Months (Paperback)
I was extremely skeptical about this book. With kid number four I decided to give it a try because I knew people who used it and saw amazing results. It has proven to be worth gold! By 9 weeks old my baby was sleeping through the night. No, she was not crying herself to sleep. In fact, she has been the only child that did not cry themselves to sleep. Out of all four kids she is the happiest, most content, most secure and most relaxed. Since I was not sleep deprived I had the energy to give the 6 year old, 5 year old and 3 year old, all of the attention they needed and deserved. For those that doubt, try it for three solid days! But be aware it only works if you can put your ego aside!

5.0 out of 5 stars A book I'll share with all my expectant friends, May 8, 2008
This review is from: The Moms on Call Guide to Basic Baby Care: The First 6 Months (Paperback)
I ordered this book in hope that I'd found something I could actually recommend to expectant cousins and friends. And I wasn't disappointed. The Moms on Call Guide to Basic Baby Care, written by Laura Hunter and Jennifer Walker, is just 159 pages, written in an easy-to-read question-and-answer style. It's not the exhaustive book of baby questions that you find in What to Expect the First Year. It's the kind of book a busy mom can actually read. It answers your questions, giving basic medical care advice, and tells you when to call the doctor. Plus, it gives you guidelines for establishing bedtime routines that will help you and your baby sleep through the night. Unlike most parenting books, it takes into consideration the fact that there are other members in your family besides the baby (the authors each have a set of twin boys, in addition to other children). Plus, it comes with a DVD that shows you how to do everything from swaddle your baby to suction their nose.

Their 2007 book is up-to-date, with the "Back to Sleep" campaign and "tummy time." But it's also old-fashioned, with instructions for swaddling your baby--as well as natural, suggesting regular corn starch from the kitchen shelf for the baby's bottom instead of the expensive, perfumed stuff renamed "baby powder".

We don't use every one of their methods, but Moms on Call is a book we'll be recommending to all our friends. If they want more, I think BabyWise and the "BabyWise Bliss" DVD have a lot of good advice. And for extremely down-to-earth common-sense parenting, To Train Up a Child has a lot of good stuff. But when I hear a friend is expecting, I don't want to overwhelm her with philosophy and psychology. She'll get enough of that from the well-meaning strangers at the grocery store. I'll be sharing with her the common-sense basics that helped us make it through the first months: The Moms on Call Guide to Basic Baby Care.

I simply could not have lived without this book. The schedules provided are invaluable and we are still using them as a base even though my kids are almost two. The boys go down for naps and at bedtime without any problems! They are so content in having a schedule and knowing what to expect that my life is easier knowing that we won't have to deal with any bedtime issues. Buy it and read it!
