Mom's Best Friend!,
By Laura Stevens (Windham, ME USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mom's Family Calendar 2003 (Calendar)
Mom's Family Calendar is the organizational Bible in our household! I received one as a gift 4 years ago and reluctantly began using it. Now I can't imagine living without it. It enables a family to have all schedules and appt's on one calendar without cramming information onto a traditional calendar. My husband and kids have learned to use it by writing down their own information and referring to it on a regular basis. Both kids have reminded me this week that we need to get 2003's, as we have sports schedules and appt.s to write down!

I have given this calendar as a gift to several friends who had never seen it before. They are hooked as I. ALL family members appreciate having their own column. A must have for any Mom who has difficult keeping track of her family's busy schedule!

Organization is not Boring!,

This review is from: Mom's Family Calendar 2003 (Calendar)
This has been THE family calendar for years. Standard calendars just don't have enough space for multiple activities on the same day. With each family member having his/her own column parents know whom to drive where and when. To be truthful, we are only a family of three. We use one of extra columns to keep track of who is borrowing our vacation house. It's a real help to have that information in a handy location. I have been a long-time fan of Sandra Boynton. Remember the Hippo Birdie Two Ewes cards? Her calendar is a double treat: an organized schedule and very funny illustrations.

If you have kids this is the calendar for you. I have used this calendar for several years and it is so helpful. My 13 year old fills in his column and can easily see if his activites will interfere with anything. He even fills in my column if I need to drive him somewhere or arranges a ride if I have a conflict. My only wish was that the spaces were bigger - some days I have more than one thing to do. I will continue to get this calendar yearly as long as they make it.

I have gotten this calender now for the past 2 years and I consider it the best . We put everything on it every appointment, activity and even birthdays. If it's not on this calander it's not an important activity. For my family there are enough columns for each of us. I love this calander if they ever stop making it I will go crazy!

very disappointed,

This review is from: Mom's Family Calendar 2003 (Calendar)
This was one of my most disappointing purchases of the entire year. I tend to be an organized person and have kept a personal diary for many years to keep track of appointments, birthdays, anniversaries, reminders for errands, social engagements and everything else. Now that I am a wife and mother, as well as handling full-time work, home, social, community, and church commitments, keeping track of everything is vital to avoiding complete chaos! This calendar sounded like a gift from heaven. It is anything but.The size alone is a nuisance. Apart from being too unweildy overall, the distance from top to bottom each month, and left to right each day, is too long, such that you are constantly running your hand up and down or across the chart to see where you are, and often entering things in the wrong column or row. Despite the size, the actual space for writing entries each day for each family member is insufficient, and an awkward shape for most notes. Also, while the glossy paper looks pretty, ball point pens don't write well on it, and felt tip pens smudge like crazy. Furthermore under artificial lighting, like glossy magazines, you get a glare across the page - picky I know, but quite irksome (especially late at night) when you are trying to check and add entries, and have to keep changing the angle to avoid the glare across the page that makes it impossible to read. We tried using a different color for each family member for easier identification of schedules, but then we were always looking aroung for the right colored pen every time we wanted to make another entry. If you want to get a good family calendar/organizer, I recommend you get a three-ringed binder from the local stationary store or supermarket, and some dated, triple-punched calendar sheets to go in it. When you close the book it is neat and tiday, you can choose the most appropriate calendar format for your needs and family, and the matt paper is easier to write on and read from. While you're at it, buy some of those plastic zipped storage pocket sheets that also have the punch holes along the side and put one in for each month. Inside those can go your theater tickets, directions to parties/meetings, and anything else you know you're going to need at the last minute when that appointment entered in your calendar actually arrives.

This is a *must have* every year,

This calendar keeps my family of five organized and on time. I buy it for my sister every year as well. The kids like the daily space for themselves and I can tell at a glance who needs to be where. Plenty of space to write, and lots of cute graphics for each month.

Don't bother,

I purchased this calendar last December, and we hate it! The spaces are too small to write on, and the format is too confusing. My husband hated it before we even started using it, and it didn't take me long (a few days) to agree. We stopped using it the first week in January. We will not purchase a calendar in this format again.

We started using this calendar about 3 years ago, and honestly, I don't know what we would do without it! Sure, you can create your own calendar, or just jot notes down on pieces of paper and slap them on the fridge, but this calendar does a great job of keeping track of all the kid's soccer schedules, school events, doctor's appointments, etc. and it looks good on the fridge too!

This has been THE calendar at my house for the past three years. It helps my entire family keep appointments. I love the fact that each family member has his/her own column. A great calendar for the busy family.
