Mom's Guides Score for Sports-Moms,
By "jrourke@radiuscapital.com" (Dallas) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mom's Guide to Basketball (Paperback)
Mom's Guide to Basketball is an excellent pocket guide to the basic terms and rules of basketball, complete with court diagram and referee illustrations of frequent calls. It's part of the Mom's Guide to Sports series (soccer, baseball, etc.) which I've found invaluable for my sports-mom friends in the bleachers as we watch our kids. In Mom's Guide to Basketball, all those terms are quickly explained, like "backcourt" violation and "three-second" violation. Well written without the burden of trying to read an entire book, the Mom's Guide to Basketball pocket guide scores with my friends in the stands. And for the price, you can't beat it.

Very, very, very basic,

Honestly, the information contained in this single page folded "flyer"...it's not an 8 page "paperback" as described...could be found in greater detail online with a simple Google search. I feel a little embarrassed for forking over $3.50 for it. I would have never purchased it if I had picked it up at the store and it could easily be mistaken for one of those "take one" flyers you see stacks of in retail stores. I could easily type the entire contents of the flyer in this review in about 10 minutes. I'll give it two stars because it is in a handy format and if you are COMPLETELY unfamiliar with basketball it might come in useful. Be warned though, I THOUGHT I was pretty clueless about basketball...but if you've been to even a few games, this book is way, way, way too basic.

Basketball primer,
By Stepmom-to-be (Pennsylvania) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mom's Guide to Basketball (Paperback)
Unlike some people, I was not a basketball aficionado until circumstances forced me to stay awake at the games. The Mom's Guide to Basketball is small so I can sneak looks at it during the game, concise so I don't have to hunt around for the term I'm looking for and complete to the point where I don't have to ask what the boys did every time they do something. It would now be helpful if mom could do a guide to understanding refs who make bad calls.

Makes moms look clueless,

I feel sorry for anyone who needs to buy this book. Do you live in a cave? Who doesn't know the rules of basketball? Writing this book makes it look like "moms" are clueless, it is very embarassing to me as a woman and a mom.
