Mom's Survival Guide to Instant Messaging by Mary B. Braun (a working mother of two middle school aged girls) reflects the insights and experiences of a group of mothers in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin and is specifically written for the benefit of moms with kids ages 12 to 17 who use the "instant messaging" feature on their personal computers the way their elders used the telephone when they were teens themselves. In Mom's Survival Guide To Instant Messaging, parents are provided with clear explanations of what Instant Messaging is; a humorous guide to Instant Messaging's unique slang; "war stories" from Moms sharing situations they've faced in a wired world; practical tips about regulating and monitoring children's use of Instant Messages -- and obtaining children's cooperation without alienating them.

The only real advice provided is to ask my children about obtaining and setting up intstant messaging. I read it in about ten minutes. Yes it is humorous, but it was not really very helpful. It did very little to minimize my concerns over instant messaging. Not worth the money.

A light-hearted yet very informative look at the world of IM 'Tweens. This book makes a great gift for any parent of young children.
