4.0 out of 5 stars Veggie Cheese Pie, December 31, 2001
This review is from: Mom's Updated Recipe Box (Paperback)
The recipe for Veggie Cheese Pie calls for 1/2 cup salt. Try 1/2 teaspoon. Other than this misprint I have enjoyed this recipe book. Great for beginners.

5.0 out of 5 stars good recipes using readily accessible ingredients, January 14, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
We've tried over 20 of the recipes to date and have liked all but two of them. I like to try one new recipe out of this book each week. Some of my favorite recipes thus far are: Calico Beans, Hamburger Soup, Roast Pork with Red Cabbage and Apples, Chicken Breast with Sherry-Sour Cream Sauce, Buttermilk Baking Powder Biscuits, and Oatmeal Cherry Muffins. I like to cook, but do not often add to my collection of cookbooks. After borrowing this one from the library several times I finally decided it was worth owning. I highly recommend this cookbook; in my mind it ranks with Joy of Cooking for utility.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great, Kid-Friendly Recipes, March 29, 2006

I got this book directly from the author after hearing her speak on nutrition for cancer patients. But although she also has a couple of cookbooks related to cancer, this book has great, simple dishes that the whole family loves. She has taken many "old favorites" and made them healthier, though no less tasty. My picky kids quickly found a number of favorites from this book, including Beef Stroganoff and Meatballs in Sour Cream Sauce. I also recommend Weihofen's "Moms Updated Quick Meals Recipe Box"; I was keeping my eyes out for that one and bought it here as soon as it was published (early 2006).

5.0 out of 5 stars My daughter loves it!, April 14, 2005

This review is from: Mom's Updated Recipe Box (Paperback)
My very picky 10 year old daughter loves the Fettucini Alfredo! This cookbook is awesome and it is the one book that I refer to constantly. The children at her school loved the Peanut Butter Cornflake Nuggets. This book is awesome and I may have to buy another because the pages are starting to fall out from usage!

5.0 out of 5 stars A must for any library..., May 16, 2004

This review is from: Mom's Updated Recipe Box (Paperback)
I am an avid cook and this is by far one of my favorite cookbooks and the one that I use more than any other. The recipes are quick and easy to prepare -- perfect for mid-week dinners. The ingredients are easy to find, and the recipes have been made healthier without sacrificing flavor. Our personal favorites are the hash brown casserole, apricot-glazed chicken, lemon bars, and porcupine meatballs. I highly recommend this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars All the best of my mom's cooking, June 13, 2000
This review is from: Mom's Updated Recipe Box (Paperback)
Of all the cookbooks my mom has written this is by far my favorite. When I went away to college, I called my mom almost every night to ask how she made some of my favorite recipies. Now that she put together this cookbook, I can look all of them up myself and make them with ease. This was the cookbook I was waiting for. I would recommend this book to anyone who is longing for the recipies that your mom used to make. (PS. I HIGHLY recommend the Butterfingers...they are my favorite! )

5.0 out of 5 stars Childhood Favorites but without as much fat and salt, August 4, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I collect cookbooks and this is among those I love the most. It contains recipes of dishes from my childhood but tweaks them just a little to avoid the truly horrendous nutritional faux paus that were caused by simple lack of knowledge in the past. The best part is that I detect no loss of flavor quality at all. It's an odd short, rectangular shape so it sits on top of my other cookbooks, making it easy to grab! My other "go to" cookbooks include Joy of Cooking, Betty Crocker's Picture Cookbook, and a particularly wonderful local church cookbook that is out of print. This book has only 300 recipes but they are important to me. The Chocolate Peanut Butter Swirl Bars are among my family's very favorite cookies, repeatedly requested for school functions, etc. But I really love some of the other old time recipes in it, even if I don't make them very often, such as the Blitze Torte and Rhubarb Custard Pie. And I've enjoyed discovering excellent recipes that were new to me, including Spinach Raspberry Salad (good for potlucks). I came to Amazon today hoping to buy 4 more copies, 1 to replace my weatherbeaten copy and 3 for gifts for family and friends. I hope they reprint this cookbook! I'm going to try her new Updated Quick Meals book, but I what I really need is the Updated Recipe Box so I hope Amazon's "other vendors" have new copies stashed somewhere!
