Mondo Fantastico,

Three albums had passed since the last great Ramones album, and even the faithful were getting worried. The Ramones' long time relationship with Sire had ended and they entered the studio with a new label and a strong sense of purpose. The result was a return to form, and set the band back on course for a resurgence. Starting with the anti-PMRC (remember them?) rant "Censors#!t", they crash through 13 very Ramonesy songs in a style that would almost be retro if they hadn't had invented it in the first place. Also worth a chuckle is the disc's closer, "Touring." Ripping off their own "Rock And Roll High School," Joey sends up the whole road show of rock with a wink and a power chord. It ends the disc on a note as giddy as the opener was politically snarling. "Mondo Bizaro" was The Ramones we had grown up loving, comfortable with their legacy and ready to take control of it once again.

This was the first Ramones album released after they left Sire Records, and also the first studio album recorded after Dee Dee quit the band. It's not a classic Ramones album by any means, but it does have it's moments. Even without Dee Dee in the band, he still contributed the best songs on the album; "Poison Heart", "Strength to Endure" and "Main Man". Joey wrote seven songs for the album, most of which are decent, but none of them are all that memorable. Marky Ramone also contributed his first two songs to this album, which are okay. There is one cover song on the album, which is the Doors' "Take It As It Comes", and it's actually one of the better songs on the album. While this isn't one of the Ramones' best albums, Ramones fans should enjoy it.

I love the Ramones and this is the best album of their later stuff. Poison Heart and Strengh to Endure are the best songs here. Strong hard edged tunes. I higly recommend this cd. This music blows away the boy band crapola that everyone is listening to these days. LONG LIVE ROCK!!!!

Ramones - 'Mondo Bizarro' (Radioactive),

Ah!The 12th actual Ramones studio offering.Pretty decent for a band's later day effort.I've never been all THAT huge of a Ramones fan,but I do find them to be a real fun band to say the least. Some of the better cuts include "Cabbies On Crack","The Job That Ate My Brain","I Won't Let It Happen","Poison Heart" and "Heidi Is A Headcase"(aren't most women?).New bassist C.J. fits into this long-running classic punk ensemble very well. Also wanted to mention their cover of the Door's "Take It As It Comes" isn't bad.So many bands out there that it's JUST occured to me that three of these guys have now passed on,Joey,Dee Dee and Johnny.I don't believe I can recall a band that's had three original members dying within a three years time span.Still a great disc to have.

During the grunge heyday, Mondo Bizarro was a flashback to the early 80's recordings of Subterranean Jungle + Pleasant Dreams. There are Top-40 moments (Poison Heart, Touring) to semi-political Cabbies on Crack, and an unusual cover of The Doors "Take It As It Comes." However, the best of the collection is "Tomorrow She Goes Away" a great song about a love that hs ran its course. The CD has good production, sound quality + an overall nice addition to any CD collection.

later ramones albums are so underrated!,
This review is from: Mondo Bizarro (Audio CD)
prior to buying this album, i had heard almost nothing off of it. i saw the music video for poison heart on youtube, but other than that, the album was a mystery. to me, it is like a combination of brain drain and pleasant dreams. it works greatly, although it isnt as good as either of them, it is still damn fine in its own right.as for this edition, i think the captain oi re-issue versions of brain drain, mondo bizarro, acid eaters, and adios amigos are the best editions we are going to be seeing for a while. it would be nice if rhno re-issued these(along with animal boy and halfway to sanity) somewhere along the line in much the same way that the first 8 were done. that would be..well..mondo!

It's amazing that an album like this is hardly even known of by most people. A great album. The stupid thing is that all people listen to today is the... in the main stream. Weird.

This is just one solid Ramones album that celebrates their more mature, Harder Rock sound if you will... It just rocks from start to finish and it's an absolute must for anyone who calls themselves a fan!

Louder guitars than any other Ramones record (almost like arena-rock.) This is another prime example of how production was right on and not hollow with too many of the band's other releases. Angrier sound here... I think that's why I like this one so much.
