Editorial Reviews

2010 release from the former Faith No More vocalist, an Italian language rock-meets orchestra hybrid. Recorded at a series of European performances including an outdoor concert in a Northern Italian piazza, this album features traditional Italian Pop songs as well as a rendition of Ennio Morricone's 'Deep Down'. Patton worked with a 30-piece orchestra and choir to create the uniquely new Mondo Cane sound. Patton's body of work continues to evolve and grow with a wide range of bands and solo projects including Mr. Bungle, Faith No More, Fantomas, Tomahawk, Peeping Tom and most recently as a film composer and voice actor.

Customer Reviews

Enjoy good music!
Matt W.
The orchestra sounds incredible and each piece is masterfully arranged, and has Patton's delightfully raw and erratic style.

I recommend that you play this album to anyone with a set of ears.

This really is a beautiful recording. I got my album tonight, tore open the packet and have listened to it three times in a row. The orchestration is stellar, the vocals are definitely Patton, but certainly from a very different angle than we have heard before. Even if you have no understanding of Italian, you'll enjoy the cadence of the pronunciation, but if you do understand you'll certainly enjoy some of these 'oldies'. When Mike Patton recently said that this album would be for "anyone with a heart in their chest" I didn't really think he'd quite get that deep on this album. But he did. I recommend that you play this album to anyone with a set of ears. It's simply a wonderful record, perhaps one of the best that will come out of 2010 (and we're not even halfway yet).

Quite a while ago, I heard about this project from Mike Patton, watched some videos of him performing these songs online, and realized that an album of this stuff would be amazing.

Finally, the album has been released, and even though my expectations were very high, it has managed to somehow exceed them tremendously.

I think Mike Patton is the greatest singer of all time. You may or may not agree, but if you are familiar with the diverse range of his work, you may see where I'm coming from - the guy is a freakin' vocal magician, able to pull so many different sounds out of his vocal chords like pulling rabbits out of a hat.

Now, for his latest trick, he sings Italian pop songs in perfectly fluent Italian, backed by multiple musicians including a full orchestra.

I can't imagine anyone disliking this album. Well, if you are turned off by lyrics you can't understand, you may not like it, but really that shouldn't keep you from this album - it's just too good to let that stop you.

If life was fair, this would be one of the highest-grossing albums of all-time and would be enjoyed by millions of people around the world.

However, life is not fair, and I would guess this album will sell relatively few copies.

You owe it to both Patton and yourself to get it now - support good music! Enjoy good music! Spread the word!

I am a big Patton fan, so I am admittedly a bit biased but this album is a blast to listen too. Patton stretches his vocal talents to a new level and is backed by a great orchestra. Patton always comes out with something fresh and new, even while covering Italian classics. If you want to hear something a bit different, check this out!

THis album is incredible. This is Mike Patton's vocals at its best...hard to believe he has records of mumblings and screams and crazy random noises, metal, rock, and then the super sexy lovage project. totally shows his versatility..

I enjoy pretty much all of Mike Patton's work. From Tomahawk and Faith No More, to Bungle and Peeping Tom. The best way for me to describe this is a mixture of old Italian songs with some peeping tom esque pop thrown in, and some bungle noises. It's amazing to say the least. I am of Italian descent and can understand a few words here and there but the language barrier does not deter from my liking this album. If you enjoy his work you should get a good time from listening to this, if you want something different and enjoy pop music then you may also find this niche album to be your cup of tea. If you can't stand music in other languages that would be the only thing I could see someone finding that would make them dislike this. My only complaint is the album is a little short, by the time you really get into it, it's over. =)

Mike Patton's versatile and powerful vocals really deliver a stellar performance with this inspired project. Truth is, he's never sounded better. A beautiful re-imagining of classic Italian hits that breathes new life and vigor into them. The orchestra sounds incredible and each piece is masterfully arranged, and has Patton's delightfully raw and erratic style. For me, this is one of those CDs that you can just listen to from start to finish and enjoy each song. It's beautiful, engaging and fun! I highly recommend this CD! My only disappointment is that this CD collection does not contain all of the songs from the concert. I hope they release studio versions of the other Mondo Cane songs such as "Lontano, Lontano", "Ma L'Amore No", as well as work on some new ones.

I have been obsessed with mike patton for the past couple of yrs. I am a long time fan from early faith no more to mr bungle in the 90's. The projects that he has been engaged with over the years has made me realize his vast genius as a vocalist. This album is very good, and different than anything he has done before, i did not know he was fluent in italian and the orchestra along side his vocals are very pleasing to the ear. When i listen to it i hear tiny hints of all of his previous projects incorporated in the music. Mike pattons vocal range surpasses that of many in current day music. I think his music is widely overlooked especially in the states. The album covers many moods and atmospheric muscial boundaries. I think if you are going to consider purchasing the record please be familiar with mike patton as artist, his past projects such as bjorks medulla, fantomas and tomahawk would be a great place to start. There needs to be more music like this exposed to people and awards given for such efforts. As a far as 2010 this album is definatly on my list as one of the best pics and highly reccommended. Please take a few listens in a quiet setting with a bottle of wine or herb of choice, tell people about this wonderful creation ,i dont think a lot of people know about the record. Mike pattons vocals pushes the limits of modern day recording excceding any expectations.
