5.0 out of 5 stars An Instant Classic
This really is a beautiful recording. I got my album tonight, tore open the packet and have listened to it three times in a row. The orchestration is stellar, the vocals are definitely Patton, but certainly from a very different angle than we have heard before. Even if you have no understanding of Italian, you'll enjoy the cadence of the pronunciation, but if you do...

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting but lacks soul
After reading the reviews, I was really excited about buying this album.

I'm disappointed.

I started listening to Mike Patton's work 20 years ago. I've seen him live with Bungle, FNM, Lovage, and Fantomas, and I've met him more than once. He adorned my walls in poster form when I was a kid. However, I started to get tired of him about five years ago,...

This really is a beautiful recording. I got my album tonight, tore open the packet and have listened to it three times in a row. The orchestration is stellar, the vocals are definitely Patton, but certainly from a very different angle than we have heard before. Even if you have no understanding of Italian, you'll enjoy the cadence of the pronunciation, but if you do understand you'll certainly enjoy some of these 'oldies'. When Mike Patton recently said that this album would be for "anyone with a heart in their chest" I didn't really think he'd quite get that deep on this album. But he did. I recommend that you play this album to anyone with a set of ears. It's simply a wonderful record, perhaps one of the best that will come out of 2010 (and we're not even halfway yet).

5.0 out of 5 stars Even Better Than I Thought It Would Be, May 19, 2010
This review is from: Mondo Cane (Dig) (Audio CD)
Quite a while ago, I heard about this project from Mike Patton, watched some videos of him performing these songs online, and realized that an album of this stuff would be amazing.

Finally, the album has been released, and even though my expectations were very high, it has managed to somehow exceed them tremendously.

I think Mike Patton is the greatest singer of all time. You may or may not agree, but if you are familiar with the diverse range of his work, you may see where I'm coming from - the guy is a freakin' vocal magician, able to pull so many different sounds out of his vocal chords like pulling rabbits out of a hat.

Now, for his latest trick, he sings Italian pop songs in perfectly fluent Italian, backed by multiple musicians including a full orchestra.

I can't imagine anyone disliking this album. Well, if you are turned off by lyrics you can't understand, you may not like it, but really that shouldn't keep you from this album - it's just too good to let that stop you.

If life was fair, this would be one of the highest-grossing albums of all-time and would be enjoyed by millions of people around the world.

However, life is not fair, and I would guess this album will sell relatively few copies.

You owe it to both Patton and yourself to get it now - support good music! Enjoy good music! Spread the word!

I am a big Patton fan, so I am admittedly a bit biased but this album is a blast to listen too. Patton stretches his vocal talents to a new level and is backed by a great orchestra. Patton always comes out with something fresh and new, even while covering Italian classics. If you want to hear something a bit different, check this out!

5.0 out of 5 stars great album, fantastic artistry, December 31, 2010

THis album is incredible. This is Mike Patton's vocals at its best...hard to believe he has records of mumblings and screams and crazy random noises, metal, rock, and then the super sexy lovage project. totally shows his versatility..

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, yet different, December 30, 2010

I enjoy pretty much all of Mike Patton's work. From Tomahawk and Faith No More, to Bungle and Peeping Tom. The best way for me to describe this is a mixture of old Italian songs with some peeping tom esque pop thrown in, and some bungle noises. It's amazing to say the least. I am of Italian descent and can understand a few words here and there but the language barrier does not deter from my liking this album. If you enjoy his work you should get a good time from listening to this, if you want something different and enjoy pop music then you may also find this niche album to be your cup of tea. If you can't stand music in other languages that would be the only thing I could see someone finding that would make them dislike this. My only complaint is the album is a little short, by the time you really get into it, it's over. =)

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing! Magnifico!, October 26, 2010
This review is from: Mondo Cane (Dig) (Audio CD)
Mike Patton's versatile and powerful vocals really deliver a stellar performance with this inspired project. Truth is, he's never sounded better. A beautiful re-imagining of classic Italian hits that breathes new life and vigor into them. The orchestra sounds incredible and each piece is masterfully arranged, and has Patton's delightfully raw and erratic style. For me, this is one of those CDs that you can just listen to from start to finish and enjoy each song. It's beautiful, engaging and fun! I highly recommend this CD! My only disappointment is that this CD collection does not contain all of the songs from the concert. I hope they release studio versions of the other Mondo Cane songs such as "Lontano, Lontano", "Ma L'Amore No", as well as work on some new ones.

Depois de assistir ao vivo a performance de Mike Paton no Rock in Rio 2011, não poderia deixar de ter essa obra em minha coleção. Uma mistura fantastica desse artista que sempre faz diferença no palco.
