Electric Guest are an LA duo comprising Asa Taccone (providing creamy androgynous vocals) and Mathew Compton. Their debut album "Mondo" is produced by producer du jour Brian "Dangermouse" Burton and their airy incredibly catchy sound is reminiscent of MGMT or even Burton's Broken Bells.

The 10 tracks are simple and melodic with hugely affecting harmonies, with story-telling lyrics, and enough quirkiness to avoid sounding too saccharine. "Holes" opens the album with a deep base and a quivery/flickery riff. "This Head I Hold" is a bouncy falsetto-sung Janelle Monaé-style number, while "Under The Gun" is a stomping groovy tale of some chap who grew up in Santa Fe.

"Awake" is groovy with a retro feel. The languid "Amber" has an island feel, reminiscent of The Eagle's "Hotel California". "The Bait" has a stomping beat, while the organ-embellished "Waves" is sunny and giddily upbeat with hand claps and elfin vocals. The 8 minute epic "Troubleman" is a tender guitar-festooned ballad with unexpected tempo shifts and dreamy harmonies flitting in and out in the background. Also continuing the mellow mood is "American Daydream" with distorted-sounding vocals, an absolute charmer, and the ballad "Control" with a Dub feel.

Everything is brilliant really. Already a strong contender for debut of the year!

Electric Guest is an electronic-rock group in the vein of Foster The People, MGMT, The Naked and Famous, and Passion Pit. Their first single, "This Head I Hold", has been getting heavy airplay on AltNation and moderate airplay on The Spectrum. It hasn't gotten much exposure beyond that, but it could become a `sleeper hit' like "Pumped Up Kicks" was for Foster The People.

"Mondo", Electric Guest's debut album, is an excellent collection of ten songs. It's so excellent that I think the band has been criminally under exposed. Electric Guest isn't just a carbon copy of another `indietronica' band. They have their own sound. Many of the songs have a psychedelic rock sound fused with synthesizers and keyboards. The music on the album is less polished than music on typical albums. It has a "live" feel. And the lead singer has a nice voice reminiscent of a 70s soul singer, an uncommon characteristic for an `alternative' band.

"This Head I Hold" is a song that it could bring this indie band top 40 fame. Pop listeners like a catchy melody and irresistible rhythm, and this song has both. Besides "This Head I Hold", the best tracks in my opinion are "Under The Gun", "Awake", "Amber", "Waves", and the over 8-min long "Troubleman". "Amber" and "Troubleman" are more somber, while the other mentioned tracks are upbeat and get you dancing, like "Pumped Up Kicks" or MGMT's "Kids".

If you are a fan of other electronic-rock or indietronica bands, give these guys a listen.

I couldn' t have said it any better than the great first reviewer Nse Ette. This album is a knockout! Start to finish. I predict breakout hit of 2012. Great synthy pop with acoustic instruments. Beautiful unforced natural melodies and harmonies. A feel good aural masterpiece. Future classic.

I love listening to brand new bands and brand new music. It's thrilling because there aren't any old emotions attached to *new-ness.* It allows your cells to knock out all the old *feelings* from the past and replace that energy with future expectations. It's basically good for the soul. This whole CD sizzles with excitement and fresh vitality...it'll knock your socks off ! It's got liveliness, pizzazz, potency and zest all wrapped up in groovy moves and thoughtful lyrics. Bottom line, these guys have good spirit and listening to this music will raise both your vibrations and your serotonin levels. Happiness begets happiness. Have at it folks ! Enjoy !

The song "This Head I Hold" is featured on HBO in a promo. spot for "Game of Thrones", a medieval fantasy show with lots of beheadings. Not a fan of GOT but I find the tune utterly hypnotic. Happily, it's become a recent, popular addition to the playlist of my local alternative radio station.

not a big reviewer, but had to let the world know- this is just greatness.
instant: ok, so i was pulled in by the glitchy first song "Holes", admittedly a weakness for me. but from there its just.. instantly in your head. like you've heard these songs a thousand times before.
classic: like some fondly recollected insanely catchy album that you've known all your life... but, damn-you just cant remember where or when you know it from.
so familiar-like everything you've heard before.
a unique sound-like nothing you've ever heard.
ive bought several albums since and cant get through them without becoming impatient and returning to this.
just buy it, you need it.

I LOVE this band! The first song I had heard from them was American Daydream, and within the first few seconds I KNEW I had stumbled upon something unique, exciting, and incredibly smooth. As I listened to more of their music I fell in love. Asa Taccone's voice is just so soothing to listen to, Mathew Compton's instrumentation at times has both a great classic groove to it, and modern beat that makes it feel great to enjoy in your bed with a set of headphones, or on the floor dancing at a club.
