You don't have to be Greek to enjoy this CD!,

This review is from: Mondo Greece (Audio CD)
This CD evoked deep musical memories of my childhood in Montreal and Chicago...truly a superb effort by Mondo producers! These tracks are what the range of modern Greek music is REALLY about, not horrible repackaged "Bouzouki lite" garbage! Mostly excellent sound quality, they paid attention on the transfers. While the whole disc is superb the outstanding tracks are by Melin Kana, George Dalaras, Anastasia Moutsatsou, Eleni Vitali, Eleftheria Arvanitaki, Savina Yannatou & Yiota Vei. Only missing tracks from Tsitsanis, Kazantzidis & Theodorakis for true perspective. Highly recommended! Where's Volume 2?

Best CD of Modern Greek Music on the Market,

Every single track on this CD is a unique and beautiful expression of modern Greek music: ethereal soulful vocals, traditional instruments and rhythms which evoke resonant vibrations (whether or not you speak or understand any Greek). Melina Kana, Savina Yannatou, Haris Alexiou, and Yiota Vei each demonstrate their charm & personality via vocals that arise from very deep musical roots ... "Smerneiko Minore" by Savina Yannatou is especially a fine example of a modern singer expressing passionate feelings through a veil of ancient instruments played by modern musicians. Past or present, doesn't matter: the music, the meter, the instruments, the rhythms all universally appealing. Yiota Vei has an unforgettable controlled soprano voice full of depth and hidden meaning. It is said she is "self-taught" and that makes her vocals even *more* authentic and real. George Dalaras needs no explanation - just about anything he sings is passionate and meaningful: sung personally to you (if you are female). I concur with Nick, where is Volume 2? Be sure it is Smerneika and Rembetika ... please!!! Erika Borsos (erikab93)

I love this CD and listen to it several times a week. Some of the songs are among the most beautiful I've ever heard because of the melodies. I'm extremely happy I purchased this CD although I'm now anxious to learn a little Greek so that I can actually understand the words!

This CD may be just what you are looking for. If you are looking for good Greek music, you have found it. This album is an emotional blend of several Greek styles, each one fully accessible even to those that aren't Greek. You may not understand the language, but you will understand the music. Enjoy it, it is very good.
